Troon Coastal Rowing Club

Troon Coastal Rowing Club Troon Coastal Rowing Club (SC053973) built and row St Ayles Skiffs "Marr Voyager" , "Ailsa Lass" and “Marjorie Jeffrey”.

Troon Coastal Rowing Club was formed after a generous donation by Mr Boyd Tunnock allowed the purchase of a St Ayles Skiff kit from Jordan Boats of Fife as part of the Scottish Coastal Rowing initiative ( For more information see www.scottishcoastalrowing.org ). Our first skiff, Marr Voyager was built over the summer of 2011 in a boat shed at Troon Marina by a team of dedicated volunteers ably ass

isted by a group of school pupils taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme. In 2012 the club plans to recruit more members from the local area and construct our second St Ayles Skiff. We are always happy to welcome new people who would like to try coastal rowing or who would like to help build our next boat or both ! For more information visit our website or send us an e-mail.

What a great night out to kick off the season for Troon Coastal Rowing Club 🚣‍♀️🍽️✨

Such a great mix of people - everyone gets involved in different ways, whether that’s rowing on the water, helping with boat building, or just being part of the social side, but all connected through a shared love of rowing 😍

Big thanks to our hosts The Anchorage Troon for having us, you’re such an asset to the community and honestly… the food was unreal 😍 proper top tier scran from start to finish.

If anyone’s been thinking about getting involved with the club, you can always come along and join us- just send us a message and we’ll get it organised. Everyone’s welcome 🚣‍♀️✨

Here’s to a great rowing season ahead!

Troon Coastal Rowing Club were saddened to hear of the passing of one of our founding members, Allan Benwood.

Allan was at Troon Coastal Rowing Club from the very beginning and was involved in all aspects of the club.

Allan championed coastal rowing and was proud of the work to encourage young people to get involved in the traditional skills of boat building and getting out on the water.

A number of club members attended Allan’s funeral in Edinburgh and his family reminded us all of his love for TCRC by asking for all donations to be made to “his much-loved Troon Coastal Rowing Club”. A wonderful £405 was raised for the club. Thank You. x

Our thoughts are with Allan’s family at this difficult time.

Troon Coastal Rowing Club are very grateful to RNLI Troon Lifeboat for a very informative and vital session on checking and maintaining your lifejacket. One of the most important bits of kit in our fabulous skiffie world! National test results are often not great so take the time now to get it sorted. Thanks to Vincent McWhirter for organising.

A tour of the station and new Shannon class boat made it a great session. Hats off to all volunteers at RNLI across the country. Don’t forget them on your Christmas list 😍

Troon Coastal Rowing Club just had its AGM reflecting on another great year.
We want to take a minute to thank all those local organisations that make it possible. We had our meeting at The Anchorage Troon and want to thank Jonny and all his team. They have made us so welcome here and at the Harbour Bar - Troon. We love, and sure it is deliberate, that you have painted the building in our team colours!
We need more people like you keeping our town alive. Thanks also to Troon Yacht Haven who are a huge asset to our town and have supported us since we started. Another great bunch of people passionate about Troon. Don’t get us started about the lovely people at Troon Bowling Club! Great support from everyone.

Probably too many others to mention but thanks to you all! You all make the many clubs etc around the town possible.

Troon Coastal Rowing Club were saddened to hear of the passing of one of our club founding members, Alan Farrell.

Alan was a stalwart of the club, rowing, boat building, supporting members and enjoying the camaraderie of coastal rowing. When once asked to name his dream team for rowing, he selected Captain Bligh as Cox with Noah on stroke, a Viking chief in 3, captain Edward Smith in 2 and Captain Pugwash in Bow. We loved that crew selection and think it brilliantly shows his wicked sense of humour.

Alans funeral is at Holmsford Bridge crematorium on Thursday 20 November at 11.30 and afterwards at South Beach Hotel.

Alan is being cremated in his club uniform and members are invited to attended the funeral in the club uniform.

Fair winds and following seas Alan. x

Many, many thanks to everyone at Royal Northern & Clyde Yacht Club for a brilliant regatta at Rhu. A great day of skiff racing along with Royal Gourock and Boatie Blest coastal rowing clubs. Troon finished first place in the Men’s Open & Mixed 220+ categories and the TCRC Novice crew won first place in a separate invitational race. Troon and Boatie Blest shared overall first place at the end of a fantastic day full of memories.
