What the Brontes Did at the Fringe presented by Pauline Vallance

Admission £5, tea/coffee available for donation.

The world famous Bronte Sisters, authors of Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights come to Fringe! What shows would they go to? Would they hit the nightlife? A one woman show with original songs and a kicking bonnet!

The show has been presented at the Edinburgh Fringe and Morecambe Fringe, at Spital Arts and at the Haworth Festival (in the very hall where Charlotte had her wedding reception!). It imagines Charlotte Bronte visiting Edinburgh at 3 separate moments in her life – with her sisters before they become famous, alone after her sisters have died, but when she has become famous and on a romantic trip with her new husband. It includes a trip to a nightclub, an interview as part of the Book Festival, with discussion on the actors set to play Rochester and a death scene, including Charlotte's actual last words.

The story is interspersed with 6 original songs, 3 of which feature on Pauline’s album 'The World's a Gift', which has been called “A gift that keeps on giving” Folking.com The show has been described as “a warm, gently comic show....as refreshing and genteel as high tea” (Morecambe Fringe) Audience comments have included “managed to tell the story in a sweet, funny and sad way” and "this show has heart as well as laughs".

This is such a shame but it's the right and wise decision!

This is such a shame but it's the right and wise decision!

We're sorry to announce that tonight's Winter Westfest has been cancelled. There is a weather warning in place and very strong winds onsite which caused damage to some of the stalls and have affected the safe running of the event. The safety of visitors, traders and the Westfest team is paramount and we were left with no choice than to cancel. We thank you for your understanding and hope to see you all next year.

🌺 Remembrance Day 2025 🌺

Today, we gathered to honour and remember all those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. On behalf of the Dundee City Centre and Harbour Community Council, we laid a wreath at the city’s Remembrance ceremony — a moment of reflection, respect, and gratitude.

We stand together in remembrance of the brave men and women who served in times of war and conflict, ensuring the freedoms we enjoy today. Their courage and selflessness will never be forgotten.

“At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.” 🌹
