Signed Songs R Us

Signed Songs R Us Signed Songs R Us are a choir of Deaf, Hard of Hearing and hearing people translating songs into the beautiful visual language of British Sign Language.

Signed Songs R Us started after Tayside Deaf Hub held a Celebration Day in September 2013. A group of Deaf people got together with Jennifer Ramsay and signed 2 songs for the event, Sailing by Rod Stewart and Celebration by Kool and the Gang. Such was the success of the "choir" and after much discussion, Signed Songs R Us was born. We were very lucky to get local Deaf artist, the very talented Kir

sty Ramsay Hogan to design our logo which was then printed on the back of our shirts. We have also recently purchased 2 beautiful banners with pictures professionally taken by Deaf professional photographer Will Clark and we have had videos made by local Deaf film producer Richard Macqueen. Our aim is to perform songs in BSL and aslo to fund raise for Tayside Deaf Hub who support us in many ways. The choir now consists of Deaf, Hard of Hearing and hearing members and have performed at many events.

πŸ’™ It’s National British Sign Language (BSL) Day! πŸ’™β

Today marks the anniversary of the BSL Act becoming law, recognising BSL as a language of Great Britain! πŸŽ‰

Did you know that fingerspelling positively correlates with stronger reading skills? Deaf and hard of hearing children who are good fingerspellers are good readers, and vice versa!

The fingerspelling alphabet is used in sign language to spell out names of people and places for which there is not a sign. Fingerspelling can also be used to spell words for signs that the signer does not know the sign for, or to clarify a sign that is not known by the person reading the signer.
