Dawson Park Community Garden Dawson Park Community Garden is Dundee’s hidden gem! We are managed by SAMH (Scottish Action for Mental Health) and maintained by volunteers.

Please do not send confidential information through Messenger - please email at: [email protected] SAMH manage and maintain Duntrune Community Gardens in partnership with Dundee City Council. The SAMH Chrysalis Project offers a "live" working and therapeutic environment for our clients. You can be referred by your GP, Occupational Therapist, Community worker or just self refer if you would like to take part. This side of the projects offers two years of support and opportunities to contribute your unique skills and interests to the garden. The neighbouring bowling green is currently being developed as a space for everyone in the community, with areas to grow, be creative or just to meet for a chat. Volunteers are welcome and we have a weekly programme of activities that everyone can take part in. Volunteers have set up a plant nursery with plants for sale and swapping. This is our Growing Chrysalis project and has been funded by the Co-op. This project requires no referrals and anyone can drop in to take part. SAMH staff are always on hand to offer advice and practical gardening tips. We can also do talks and presentations for groups, please contact 07800 820594 if you have a group that would be interested in learning about our work in Therapeutic Horticulture. The gardens are open to the public all the year round, Monday to Thursday 9am to 3pm and entry is free.

Long-term (and legendary) volunteer Kiera was back in the garden, and she put some SERIOUS work into the raised beds and vegetable patches!
We are grateful 🙏 especially because with some gardening jobs you just have to take turns getting the achey muscles and a sore back - it’s some workout 😅

As the seasons slowly shift, we’re thankful for all the colour in the garden. It’s hard to miss this absolutely incredible sunflower growing in a raised bed outside the polytunnel - not only are the flower heads huge, we counted over 15 of them. We have been seed-saving these so we can share little packets of sunshine when you are growing next year :)

Dawson Park Community Garden will be CLOSED on just a few more Wednesdays this month - Wednesday 14" October and Wednesday 21st October.

We will also have reduced opening hours on Monday 19th October, the garden will only be open between 1-3.30pm that day to account for a volunteer event later.

We had the wonderful David Lampard (the “moth man”) visit us across Wednesday evening and Thursday morning for some interesting and insightful sessions on moth-trapping and identification!

It was a colder night than expected so moths chose to nap elsewhere (in their more familiar beds perhaps!)! But not to worry, David brought plenty moths with him to show so we could have a look and peruse his guidebooks as well as the different equipment he uses for identifying.
Thank-you everyone who came along and for your enthusiasm!
And thanks again to David for telling us all about these fascinating creatures, as well as other amazing stories you’ve collected in your time doing this :)

We know some of you missed the cart last week, so we’re giving you more notice today that we will be harvesting for the food cart!
come get some tasty fresh produce from 1pm onwards :)
Can’t say everything we will have for certain, but I’m sure we will have tomatoes (all sizes!), chilli peppers (sweet and spicy!), loads of basil and parsley, cucumbers, beans, and more!

We have some paper bags available, and the donation bucket is there if you are able to contribute a little towards the project - no worries though if money is tight , you are more than welcome to the feast :)

Dawson Park Community Garden will be closed during the day tomorrow (Wed 7th October) due to staff shortage.
we are very sorry for the short notice!
BUT!!
you CAN join us in the evening at 6.15pm for
a Moth educational activity!
and from 9.30am the day after (Thursday) for a second related Moth session !!
as well as our usual open garden for the day.
