🚗 Community Speed Watch – Branton & Auckley 🚗
Yesterday residents and members of the Finningley Ward carried out a Community Speed Watch session in Branton and Auckley, with the support of Armthorpe Ward Councillor Nick Marriott.
Over a two-hour period, they monitored 726 vehicles, with just 11 travelling at excessively high speeds. 👏
That’s a really encouraging result and shows that the vast majority of drivers are respecting the speed limits and helping to keep our communities safer. A big thank you to everyone who drives responsibly.
Unfortunately, not everyone appreciates our efforts. One driver, recorded at 40mph in Branton, decided that verbal abuse was an appropriate response to being monitored — even turning around to come back for a second go!
We won’t dwell on the comments, but it’s worth remembering that our volunteers give up their own time to help make our roads safer for everyone. We’re not there to inconvenience anyone or cause confrontation; we’re there because speed limits exist for a reason, and safer speeds save lives.
