How’s that? OUTstanding say Barnby Dun Cricket Club!
Long established local cricket club, Barnby Dun, are celebrating after being awarded a grant of £2,200.00 by the West Riding Masonic Charities Community Fund following the support in the application from the Hall Cross Lodge of Freemasons, based in Doncaster.
The Community Sports Club, based at the Glasspark Sports Ground, Kirk Sandall, operates a range of teams including two Saturday Men’s teams playing in the Yorkshire Cricket Southern Premier League, a Sunday XI, a Mid-Week XI and an increasingly successful Women’s team playing in the South Yorkshire Women and Girls League.
The Club also has a thriving Junior Section for boys and girls and young adults fielding five teams from the Under 9 to Under 18 levels.
The Club also holds popular summer camps throughout August where up to 100 boys and girls attending receive professional cricket coaching.
At the heart of the Club’s mission, founded in 1870, is to support the health and well-being of children and adults in the community.
To maintain and fulfil this mission it is critical to provide first class playing facilities for all the teams. This requires equipment to deliver this and the Club needed to replace, renew and repair some of its existing equipment, including a new soaker to collect excess water from the square, a mobile net cage and repairs needed to the roll-on wicket covers.
After one of the local freemason’s saw an article about the Club’s needs in the local Church magazine, the Club were encouraged, by the local Doncaster Freemasons Lodge, Hall Cross, to apply for funding to the West Riding Masonic Charities.
Within a few weeks of submitting the Funding Application the request was approved and funds sent to the Club.
Peter Fell from the Club stated: “We are really pleased to have this support from the Masonic Charities. We can now proceed with the repair replacement and renewal of equipment. It will enable our active Club membership, across a range of ages, to have access to good playing and practice facilities and ensure the legacy of this Club to continue.”
Tim Shaw, from Hall Cross, said: “This Club is a heartbeat of the community and enables boys, girls, men and women to participate in cricket, have the health and well-being benefits, enjoy some great times and make lasting friendships. We are delighted to have been able to support such an established Club in securing the Community Fund grant.”
