There has been a lot of negativity in society over the past number of days.
A lot of anger, frustration, division, and uncertainty. Many people have concerns about the future, and it's important that those concerns are heard and discussed openly and respectfully.
However, while others focus on what is going wrong, we in Currynierin choose to focus on what is going right and what we can achieve together.
Currynierin is thriving.
There is so much happening across our community, and there is every reason to be proud.
Refurbishment works at the centre continue to progress, a new community garden is taking shape, and our long awaited new park is on the way.
We are planning an exciting summer scheme for local children and families, while a number of funding applications are currently in progress that will help us grow and expand the work we do.
We are fortunate to have developed strong links with organisations including the National Lottery, BUPA, Children in Need, Tesco, ASDA, Derry City and Strabane District Council, Waterside Neighbourhood Partnership, Dare to Dream, YMCA, the Peace Impact Project, St Columb's Park House, and many more. These partnerships are helping us build opportunities and create positive change for our community, for you.
At times of frustration and uncertainty, we must remember that violence is never the answer. Conversations are. Dialogue is.
Progress comes from people sitting down together, listening to one another, and working towards solutions.
We must ensure that people's concerns are heard and discussed respectfully.
Young people, in particular, need to be listened to, valued, and recognised as part of the solution. They should never be demonised or drawn into confrontation. They are the future of our community and deserve every opportunity to help shape it.
Currynierin is a community of approximately 300 homes, but our resilience, determination, and spirit are far greater than our size suggests. We are a proud community with a bright future, a future for everyone who calls this place home.
We have worked hard against the odds to achieve progress, and together we can achieve much more.
Let's continue that journey together.
I would ask you to get involved, support your community, and be part of the positivity. Don't allow the negativity of others to pull you down. Be part of building something better.
There's a great Irish saying: Nรญ neart go cur le chรฉile; There is no strength without unity. This unity is something we aim for daily.
Be proud of progress. Be proud of Currynierin. And most importantly, be proud of yourself and the positive change happening within our community.
If you have any questions or suggestions on how we continue to progress collectively, the kettle is always on!
Thanks!
