📢 WANTED: Volunteer Champions for Currynierin Community Centre! 📢

Information Night: 9th November, 6:30-7:30 pm at the Centre.

Looking for a meaningful way to give back to the local Derry community while gaining amazing perks, free qualifications, and training 🤝 We are looking for hands-on volunteers to join our fantastic team!

Whether you love chatting with people, cooking up a storm, or getting your hands dirty in the garden, we have a role perfectly suited to you.

🛠️ Roles Available:
• Welcome & Registration: Be the friendly face greeting guests and managing entry.
• Tea/Coffee Refreshments & Tuck Shop: Serve food, handle cash, and keep things running smoothly.
• Cooks: Help prepare and cook delicious food for our community.
• Gardeners: Support and grow our wonderful community allotment space.
• Kids' Play Coordinator: Organise fun games to keep the little ones entertained.

• Event Crew (Floaters, Setup & Takedown): Help with logistics and jump in where needed during live events.
• Skill Sharing: Got a special talent? Come teach and showcase it to others!

👐 Makaton & Songs: Nursery rhymes and classic songs integrated with Makaton signing to support communication, confidence, and understanding.
✨ Sensory Play & Bubbles: Visual props, tactile elements, and bubble fun to engage curious minds and build social interaction in a welcoming environment.

We’ve got another spooky treat happening today!
Join us for our Halloween Disco at Currynierin Community Centre on Wednesday 28th October, 1–3pm.
There will be plenty of Halloween fun, including:
🎃 Dunking for apples
👻 Mummy wrap
🧟 Zombie footsteps
🎃 Pumpkin patch stomp
🎲 Halloween games
🎨 Face painting
🍪 Light refreshments
🏆 Prizes for the best dressed
Children are encouraged to dress up in their favourite Halloween costume!
Only £1 per child.

⚠️ Storm Boelo: Important Service Update ⚠️

Following Met Office warnings for severe winds this weekend, Derry City and Strabane District Council is advising everyone to take care, stay informed and avoid unnecessary travel during the worst weather conditions.

🌬️ Winds of 60-70mph are expected across the district, with gusts of up to 80mph possible in exposed coastal areas. Fallen trees, flying debris, power outages and travel disruption are likely.

Service impacts for Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October include:

🔴 All outdoor sports facilities closed
🔴 All parks, play parks and greenways closed
🔴 Brooke Park Leisure Centre closed
🔴 Recycling centres closed on Sunday - but reviewed all weekend
🔴 Cemeteries closed early on Saturday & are not expected to open until after 11am on Sunday (subject to assessments). Funerals will be facilitated.

Council teams will continue to monitor conditions and carry out safety inspections before facilities reopen.

We will provide further updates over the weekend.

Please secure loose outdoor items, check on vulnerable neighbours and follow the latest weather advice.

Our Youth Clubs in Drumahoe, Currynierin, and Lettershandoney will be closed tomorrow, Thursday 22nd October to accommodate the Fright Night Trip.

All clubs will resume as normal on Friday 23rd October for some spooky Halloween Fun! 🎃
