Maire Mullan (1941–2022) – Studio Collection Auction, 5–12 November 2026
Derry-born artist and much-loved art teacher Maire Mullan inspired generations of young people through her teaching at St Cecilia's College and St Brigid's High School, as well as the many adult art classes she ran in Derry and Ballyliffin. Following her retirement, she devoted herself to painting, creating a wonderfully varied collection of landscapes, seascapes, still lifes, portraits and more, often inspired by the beautiful coastline and countryside of Donegal and the north-west of Ireland. Her work was exhibited in galleries and venues across Derry and Donegal, and she contributed the original drawings for the Colmcille Wood Sculpture Project during Derry's 2013 City of Culture celebrations. Known for her expressive use of colour and her enthusiasm for encouraging creativity in others, Maire leaves a lasting artistic legacy. A collection of 198 paintings from her remaining studio works will be offered for sale through Ross's Auctioneers, Belfast, in an online auction running from Thursday 5 November to Thursday 12 November 2026.
