It was fantastic to be back helping our community with lots of volunteers yesterday for the Big Cardiff Tidy after taking a break. Thank you to all 20 volunteers for joining us to help clean up where we live. It was a great morning and we filled 35 bags with litter and removed some other miscellaneous items from our local environment. It was great to have 4 new volunteers too! If you fancy joining us next time, please do. It's always great to have a helping hand (see pic #3). Our next litter pick is on Saturday 7th November and everyone is welcome to join.
We met in the Hub & Library car park for the litter pick. After a health & safety briefing and a welcome to our new committee members, we set off for the clean up. Started in the Skate Park and basketball court, we then spread out onto the playing fields and busy footpaths in the area, and along Crickhowell Road. It was relatively tidy but our volunteers soon found lots of litter, a lot was hidden within the vegetation and hedges. We also removed 2 Tesco trollies, a pushchair, umbrellas, felt, baby bath, kids electric quad bike, canisters, very smelly food bin, a mop bucket, alloys, clothes and a traffic cone.
Great to see lots of kids enjoying their football on the fields, thank you for always keeping it tidy after your games. A few members also cut back bramble that was encroaching onto a main footpath, all part of an SMCU clean up. Thanks again to all of our volunteers, we'll see you in November.
