Is your child getting ready to start or return to school? 🎒

With the first school day approaching, there can be lots to consider. Now is a good time to talk about what a school day might look like and practise some of the everyday activities they might come across.

Think about:

⭐Getting ready in the morning - can they get dressed and manage their school bag?
⭐Lunchtime - can they open their lunch box or manage their school dinner?
⭐Using the toilet - can they manage their clothing and wash their hands?
⭐Outdoor wear – can they take off their coat and hang it up?
⭐Asking for help - do they know how to let someone know when they need support?

Your child doesn’t need to do everything independently. Practising these routine activities can make them more familiar, build confidence and help identify where your child may need support or adaptations.

Over the next few weeks, our therapists will be sharing practical ideas to help your child prepare for different parts of their school day!

🎉 We are delighted to have received a generous £25,000 donation from the Valero Pembroke Refinery Benefit for Children Golf Classic⛳

Helping more babies and children living with cerebral palsy across Wales, and the families who love them, get specialist therapy and support when they need it most.

The annual Classic brings together 200+ golfers from Valero, its contractors and business partners, raising funds for children's charities across South and West Wales and we are honoured to be one of 14 beneficiary charities this year.

Our Head of Fundraising, Carwyn Williams, accepted the donation at the presentation evening in Saundersfoot on behalf of the families we support.

Chief Executive (Interim) Marie Wood said: "This donation will make a meaningful difference to the babies, children and families we support across Wales... helping more children with cerebral palsy reach their full potential."

Thank you to Valero and everyone who supported this year's Benefit for Children Golf Classic, your generosity will have a lasting impact on children and families living with cerebral palsy across Pembrokeshire and Wales.

💗 Meet Rose 💗

Rose arrived on New Year's Eve, ringing in the new year for the family. But just four days later, she collapsed and had to be resuscitated. In the days that followed, her parents Rebecca and James received the news no parent is ever prepared for - Rose had suffered irreversible brain damage.

No one could tell them exactly what this would mean for her future, only that time was precious, and that early intervention would be crucial.

At just 5 weeks old, Rose was referred to Cerebral Palsy Cymru, where she began attending their early intervention programme, Better Start, Better Future.

"Rose is now 3 years old and thriving. Every time we visit their centre, they can see a positive change in Rose's abilities, and this gives us hope for her future." James said.

This spring, Rose and her mum Rebecca hosted a Go Green Day for Cerebral Palsy Cymru at her playgroup in Swansea. And now, her dad, James and his friend Stuart are lacing up their running shoes and taking on the Vale of Glamorgan Ultra Marathon, 40 gruelling (but gorgeous!) miles, all to raise vital funds for the charity that's given their family hope again.

Every pound raised helps Cerebral Palsy Cymru support more families like Rose’s, because every child deserves the chance to thrive, and every family deserves the support to help them do just that.
