The Great Southern Walk is returning to Canterbury on Sunday 13 September and we’d love to see you there 🌳

Enjoy a fully-signed & marshalled hike across the Kent Downs. Whether you pick the 15-mile or 5-mile route, you’ll be raising much-needed funds for and .youthclub. You’ll be welcomed across the finish line to a bespoke medal, celebrations and food & drinks 🏅🍕

We were delighted to host an evening of drinks and nibbles for supporters of The Great Southern Walk! 🍷🧀

It was a fantastic opportunity to thank attendees for their invaluable commitment to last year’s inaugural walk, and to showcase the walk and the work of the charities to future supporters.

We started the evening watching and taking part in some of the Prince of Wales Youth Club activities! Taking part in archery was Lord Mayor of Canterbury and our favourite medal hander-outer , aka The Marlowe’s panto dame!

Both charities talked about their work, with CEO of Rising Sun Fran outlining the vital need for services for adults and children impacted by domestic abuse, and two brave survivors sharing their experiences. Plus some inspiring talks from youth workers and members of the boxing gym, highlighting the importance of youth services Prince of Wales Youth Club

Huge thanks to Sumo Donuts for the most delicious food. Yum!

⭐Take on The Great Southern Walk 2026 and make a real difference in your local community!⭐

100% of ticket proceeds support two long standing Canterbury based charities - Rising Sun and Prince of Wales Youth Club.

Rising Sun has been supporting survivors of domestic abuse for 50 years, providing life changing, and sometimes life saving, support to adults and children.
With one in four women experiencing domestic abuse in their lifetime – and one in five children growing up in households where abuse is present – the need for specialist services is critical.

Open since 1935, The Prince of Wales Youth Club provides a regular safe, structured environment for young people to thrive. Through a range of activities including boxing, judo, holiday programmes and mentoring, the club helps children and teenagers develop life skills, confidence, and a strong sense of community.

The Great Southern Walk is back for 2026! 📣

Following last year’s success, plans for the second Great Southern Walk are well underway!

Once again, we’ve got 2 fantastic routes to pick from:
🚶🚶🏿‍♀️The Full 15 – a challenging 15-mile trek exploring the Kent Downs, with ancient woodlands, rolling hills, and some of the best scenery Kent has to offer
🚶🏻‍♀️🚶🏿The Fun 5 – a gentler 5-mile walk through meadows, catching some gorgeous Canterbury views, through to the playground at Toddler’s Cove

And with every step, you’ll be supporting Prince of Wales Youth Club and Rising Sun : two life-changing charities at the heart of Kent.

📣We are absolutely thrilled to announce that The Great Southern Walk 2025 raised a staggering £8724! 📣

This will make an enormous impact for our two brilliant partner charities: The Prince of Wales Youth Club Prince of Wales Youth Club and Rising Sun Domestic Violence and Abuse Service Rising Sun

It was certainly a fantastic day, full of sunshine, good cheer and breathtaking views!

Here are a few snippets from the day:
⭐The Lord Mayor of Canterbury, Keji Moses, Lord Mayor of Canterbury and the High Sherriff of Kent, Jonathan Neame, joined TGSW committee members for photos in the glorious sun.

⭐A rousing warm up lead by Fran from Active Life - Kingsmead Leisure Centre got the walkers stretched and ready for the challenging 15 mile walk.

⭐All in all, we had nearly 300 walkers, including students from The King's School Canterbury and the Canterbury Gurkha Nepalese Community.

⭐High up on the Kent Downs, walkers were treated to spectacular views.

⭐Our celebrity guest Nurse Nelly from Canterbury's Marlowe Theatre panto greeted returning walkers and gave out eco-friendly wooden medals for their incredible achievement.

⭐And celebrations continued with food and drink from HatHats Coffee , The Next Slice, Sumo Donuts , Faversham Ices, and a free massage from Level Health Physiotherapy Level Health.

Every penny raised from this brilliant day goes to our two charities, who can reach even more children, young people, families, and survivors of domestic abuse in our local communities.

We can’t thank our sponsors, volunteers, and of course our dedicated walkers enough for making the first ever Great Southern Walk such a great success, and a positive day bringing people together.
