Shockingly, 1 in 6 older people are victims of abuse.

Here at Rising Sun, we want to provide the best possible support to older survivors.

Recently, our fantastic Outreach Worker Sharon attended Dementia Services Showcase, meeting service users and raising awareness of our life-saving work.

The rest of our team were thrilled to take part in specialist training on elder abuse. We learned so much about the issues that older people face when trying to access support.

We will keep working together with our community to end domestic abuse for everyone 🧡

The feelings of suspense, anticipation and physical stress during a football match are not only felt by the fans for the outcome of the match, but also by the partner for the outcome of their night.

❓Are they going to come home drunk?
❓Have they been using drugs?
❓Are they happy with the score?
❓Are they angry about the score?
❓Did they have an argument with their friends?
❓Did someone annoy them?
❓Was there a long wait for a taxi?
❓Did they have a stressful day at work?
❓Is the house tidy enough?
❓Are the children going to wake up tonight?

The World Cup doesn’t cause domestic abuse. But it adds more pressure, more alcohol & drugs and more emotions which can all lead to abusive behaviour.

We are proud to support anyone who is experiencing or has been impacted by domestic abuse.

🌈 55% of LBGT+ people have been subjected to domestic abuse
🌈 43% of trans and non-binary individuals have experienced familial abuse
🌈 2/5 LGBT+ victims of domestic abuse receive no support from friends & family
🌈 60% of LBGT+ victims receive no support from professional agencies

We are proud to be working towards ensuring that our community knows that we’re hear to support them.

🙌We are absolutely delighted to share that Graham Plumbers Merchant in Canterbury are supporting Rising Sun for the fourth year running, and so far they’ve raised a truly incredible £10,527!🙌

Their energy, creativity and commitment is making a real difference for survivors of domestic abuse in our community, helping them to safety, recovery and a positive future.🧡

From breakfast stations for hungry plumbers to in store golf competitions, they’ve shown a genuine desire to help.

We were honoured to host the High Sheriff of Kent's last visit last week, alongside the fantastic Home Start Shepway!

Our conversations around mental health challenges for child survivors of domestic abuse, as well as the abuse that survivors face after leaving their partner, were incredibly important.
