The Edward Showler Foundation The Edward Showler Foundation waa set up in memory of Dr Ed Showler. Ed died in June 2017, 8 months after being diagnosed with metastatic Clear Cell Sarcoma.

Initially we are seeking to raise £1,000,000 to fund research into Clear Cell Sarcoma.

On Thursday the 11th June it will be 9 years since Ed died. In the last message he wrote to us he said: -

“Be brave and remember how much I love you both.”

Please take a moment on Thursday to think of Ed and remember the times you spent with him and the love and fun you shared.

Thank you.

Chris Completes his 5th Half Marathon of 2026 in Limerick. 🧡

Chris Wheatley completed the 5th of the 12 half-marathons he is running in 2026 - one every month - to raise funds for Clear Cell Sarcoma research and to remember Sharni Ruming, who tragically died of Clear Cell Sarcoma in 2023 at the age of 30.

This month it was the Limerick Half Marathon and the picture shows Chris enjoying a well deserved Guinness afterwards with a group of friends and fellow runners.

With Gift Aid Chris has already raised over £2,500.

Ciara Motherway completed the Dublin City Half Marathon on 3rd May and has raised over £5,000 to fund research into Clear Cell Sarcoma at the Cancer Institute, University College London.

Ciara’s middle son, Charlie, was diagnosed with Clear Cell Sarcoma two years ago at the age of 10.

Clear Cell Sarcoma is an ultra-rare and aggressive soft tissue cancer that mainly affects young adults. Currently, there are no effective medical treatments.

Charlie has undergone surgery to remove the cancer and is having two years of immunotherapy. Thankfully, he is doing really well. He is currently NED (no evidence of disease), but there remains a high risk of a recurrence, this is why supporting this research is so important to us.

Joe Smith is running 50 miles in the North Downs Pilgrims Way Challenge to raise funds for Ed’s Foundation and to support research into Clear Cell Sarcoma.

The North Downs Way 50 is a 50 mile point to point run along the North Downs Way National Trail from Farnham in Surrey to Knockholt Pound, on the outskirts of London, with a total climb is 5,600 feet.

Help donate on the link below to support Joe in this massive challenge and at the same time help fund research into Clear Cell Sarcoma. The research that the Foundation is funding at University College London is seeking to find a cure for this terrible disease, that mainly affects children and young adults and for which there is no affective treatment at the present time

We have recently set up a Clear Cell Support Group for patients and families 🧡🧡

If you or someone you love has had a diagnosis of Clear Cell Sarcoma, please contact us, we would love to hear from you.

We feel we can help you and you us.

The WhatsApp Clear Cell Sarcoma Support Group hold regular Zoom meetings to keep members in touch with each other and to keep them updated on the latest research developments and to share experiences and be inspired by one another. We will have guest speakers every 6-weeks, who will be announced in advance.

Ciara Motherway is running the Dublin City Half Marathon on 3rd May to raise funds for Clear Cell Sarcoma research at the Cancer Institute, University College London. This research is funded by The Edward Showler Foundation and aims to find the causes and drivers of Clear Cell Sarcoma and to develop treatments that will cure this terrible disease.

He continues to live life with a smile on his face and a positive outlook. He is currently NED (no evidence of disease), but there remains a high risk of a recurrence, this is exactly why supporting this research is so important to us.

The Edward Showler Foundation was set up to remember Ed, who was a doctor and died of Clear Cell Sarcoma in 2017, at the age of 28.

In the last few years, the research has led to some major advances in understanding Clear Cell Sarcoma and following a successful international “Workshop” in London last September, a plan to target identified weaknesses in the disease has been formulated. This will involve many scientists collaborating in laboratories across Europe and the US to help find a cure.

This work is only possible because of funds raised through donations, which drive this research that gives hope to so many Clear Cell Sarcoma patients both in Ireland and across the world.

Please support Ciara in raising funds for this incredible cause.

The sixth annual film screening to celebrate Ed’s birthday was held at the Garden Cinemas in Covent Garden on Saturday the 7th March. The event was a great success.

Thank you to everyone who attended and donated and helped raise over £3,400 so far, a record amount for this event. It was a great afternoon and a fitting way to remember what would have been Ed’s 37th birthday.

We would also like to thank the Garden Cinema and in particular Richard, for kindly donating the screen to us free of charge and to Abdul and Anna for their kindness and hospitality on the day. Thank you.

If you haven’t donated so far but would like to do so the link is below👇

We are proud to announce that we have now joined the Sarcoma Patient Advocacy Global Network (SPAGN) in order to link up with other Sarcoma charities and to try and promote the interests of Clear Cell Sarcoma patients in this forum.

SPAGN is the leading international network of Sarcoma Patient Advocacy Organisations and provides a common, international and influential patient voice for sarcoma patients around the globe. SPAGN works to improve the treatment and care of sarcoma patients through information and support, and by increasing the visibility of sarcoma with policymakers and the public.

SPAGN hold an annual conference and this year it is in Stockholm at the beginning of May. We are looking forward to connecting with other sarcoma charities, patients and patient advocates and with a view to linking European Clear Cell Sarcoma patients together in a support.

Late last year the Foundation for the National Institute of Health (FNIH) in the US, announced its ULTRA Programme had selected Clear Cell Sarcoma, from over 250 rare cancers, to focus their future research efforts upon.

The FNIH seeks to form public-private partnerships to accelerate biomedical research and has raised over $1.5 billion dollars since it was founded in 1990.

Clear Cell Sarcoma was selected because it was considered to have a mutation that is targetable and, due to the limited
number of patients affected, it is unlikely pharmaceutical companies will specifically invest to find a cure.

The involvement of the FNIH could help to leverage investment into research into Clear Cell Sarcoma and is therefore a potentially massive boost to finding a cure for this terrible disease.
We are very aware of the potential this represents to hopefully form collaborations with institutes in the US.

Dr Priya Chadasama represented our consortium and made an excellent online presentation of our roadmap and outlined how we saw the future directions of research.

Leanne Eveson is putting together a team to take part in the Jurassic Coast Ultra Challenge, which will take place on the 16th – 17th May 2026, to raise funds for Ed’s Foundation and to find a cure for Clear Cell Sarcoma. Leanne is being joined by Abi Sawer, a nurse who worked with Ed at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading.

Both Leanne and Abi are undertaking the 50km challenge but there are an other challenges available that are suitable for a range of athletes and for weekend dog walkers who just want to enjoy this spectacular stretch of coast.

If you want to join Leanne and Abi on all or part of the challenge then please sign up via the official website Ultra Challenge

Help support Leanne, Abi and their team to raise lots of money to fund research into Clear Cell Sarcoma by visiting the link below.
