As we enter the closing stages of the Lidl Green Fund campaign (deadline this Wednesday 21 October), we thought we'd take a look at who benefits from the work of Belfast Tool Library:

❤️ The young people who come to learn independent living skills.

❤️ The women who we've taught DIY and practical repair skills.

❤️ The community gardens across Belfast who've come to us to make the planters and containers they need for growing veg.

❤️ The carers and mental health advocates who've experienced how making something with your hands benefits your mind.

❤️ The almost 800 members who borrow our tools and space to do things for themselves.

If you and we win £4200 funding, we can support even more community groups and households in our city. 💪🤞🗳🛒

Belfast Tool Library chair Chris McCartney (pictured with her daughter Eilidh), explains the difference it would make for BTL to win £4200 from the Lidl Green Fund:

"Our mission at BTL is to get tools, and the skills to use them, into the hands of more people in Belfast, so they can make, build, fix and do more for themselves.

The new tools we hope to buy with the Lidl funding will make a huge difference to our workshop and all who come there to learn woodwork and work on their own builds.

We'll be able to turn more reclaimed wood into planters, bird boxes, and more for gardens, homes, and communities across Belfast.

We've come so far since Belfast Tool Library opened seven years ago - we would love you to be part of it and help us take the next step on our journey."

Don't forget, you have until 21st October to via the Lidl app!

Thanks for your support 💪🤞🔨🪚

Jane McMahon, Workshop & Training Coordinator at Belfast Tool Library, explains what we are hoping to achieve with the support of the Lidl Green Fund:

“We are asking Lidl shoppers to vote for us so that we can expand our capacity to process reclaimed timber and deliver more community woodworking programmes focused on reuse and upcycling.

If we are successful in securing the £4200 funding, we will buy a planer, bandsaw, and dust extraction system to enable volunteers and participants to safely and efficiently convert donated and waste wood into usable materials.

This equipment will support a structured programme of community workshops where participants will build planters, bird boxes, and bat boxes using entirely recycled timber. These items will directly benefit local community groups, including alleyway garden projects, women’s centres, and housing associations.”

So, if you're shopping in Lidl between 15-21 October, don't forget to via the Lidl App!
