🚨The social housing waiting list has just hit 50,000 households!🚨

Millions spent on temporary accommodation in hotels while acres of public land lie empty… 🤔

Something isn’t adding up, but the waiting list certainly is. 📈

There is an underestimation, and denial by some, of the extent of racism in Northern Ireland, a Stormont committee has heard.

It comes after police figures indicated that 2025 saw the highest numbers of racist incidents in the region since records began in 2004. The year saw 2,048 racist incidents and 1,280 race hate crimes in a year which saw significant race-related disorder in Ballymena, Co Antrim.

On Wednesday, the Executive Office scrutiny committee heard views that the proposed race relations strategy and delivery plan does not do enough.

Mental distress doesn’t happen in a vacuum.

For many asylum seekers and refugees, trying to build a new life for their family in Northern Ireland can be a struggle. Violence, fear, and trauma in their old homes — compounded by poverty and homelessness in their new one — are helping to drive this crisis.

This is why the Kind Economy will be joining their colleagues in New Script for Mental Health at Stormont on Tuesday 16th June at 1pm!

In March 2025, Communities Minister Gordon Lyons told the Northern Ireland Assembly that he had approved funding for the Housing Executive to purchase 600 homes to use for temporary accommodation 🎉🏠

14 months on, how many of these homes have been purchased…?

The New Script for Mental Health is now supporting PIPS Su***de Prevention Charity’s “Too Many Lives Lost” campaign. 🌱

In 2024, 290 registered deaths from su***de were recorded. A heartbreaking reminder that more action is urgently needed. Together with communities across Northern Ireland, we are standing up to demand change.

The "Too Many Lives Lost" campaign calls on the NI Executive to fully fund the Mental Health Strategy without any further delays because every life matters. 💚

Great turnout at today’s protest action organised in collaboration with CATU Belfast, Beechmount Residents Collective. and Anaka Women's Collective

We took our protest to the Department for Communities, the government body with responsibility of building social housing.

This protest was symbolic of our cross-issue unity. From Housing, access to work and Language rights.

Last week, we welcomed Dr Pat Bracken to Usdt Newhill Youth & Community Centre as part of Féile na gCloigíní Gorma 🩵

Feargal from Glór Na Móna talked to us about how Pat’s research and expertise reflects the community response to a crisis of emotional distress that sparked the creation of the Féile in 2017…

While communities like this one in West Belfast are paving the way, the crisis has not disappeared.

On Tuesday 16th June we are heading up to Stormont to tell them that they urgently need to follow the lead of communities, and take steps to tackle the mental health crisis. Bígí linn! ✊
