“Cities are a magnet for diversity”
🌃🌃🌃

Many thanks to Ivan Gusic, associate professor of Political Science at Uppsala University, who today led a talk on Co-existence in a post-conflict city.

As part of our Critical Youth Research Hub, Ivan and our room of our staff and member organisations engaged in a workshop, opening a conversation on co-existence in post- conflict areas and particularly in how creativity can be used to bridge divides.

“People touch elbows in cities, but they live in different worlds”

Thank you to the Paul Hamlyn Foundation for sponsoring this Research Hub event!

🚨YouthAction NI will be hosting more upcoming workshops for our Critical Youth Research Hub - to be announced, so watch this space!🚨

Bhí an-áthas orainn freastal ar chomhdháil Fhoram na nÓg le déanaí.

We were delighted to recently attend the Fóram na nÓg conference. Lots of conversations on the value of youth work through the medium of Irish & to hear the impact of this from young leaders in the room.

Maith sibh go léir.

YouthAction are delighted to invite you to the first in a new series of collective thinking workshops that will contribute to YouthAction NI’s Critical Youth Research Hub.

The Hub will provide a conversational space for youth workers, researchers, activists and practitioners to come together to explore the issues, ideas and research shaping youth work, peacebuilding and civil society today.

Save the Date
📅 Wednesday 30 September 2026
🕛 12.00pm – 1.30pm (Lunch included)
📍 YouthAction NI, 14 College Square North, Belfast
Topic: Co-existence in Post-Conflict Societies

Presenter: Ivan Gusic, Associate Professor in Political Science at Uppsala University, whose research explores peacebuilding and coexistence in societies emerging from war and armed conflict.

During this session, Ivan will explore how coexistence can emerge in societies transitioning from war. Drawing on examples from Belfast, Mostar, Mitrovica, Beirut and other post- conflict contexts, it examines how communities navigate division and difference through integration and cooperation, everyday interactions, and, at times, separation and distance.

This is an excellent opportunity to engage with current research, reflect on our practice, and contribute to wider conversations on youth work, peacebuilding, and social change.

Please confirm attendance with Donna via email [email protected]

“Peace isn’t only created through political agreements, but it’s created through relationships between people together”

It’s not easy to represent a generation, but you did it brilliantly, Kayla!
Check out a few of her highlights!

Thank you Kayla for representing YouthAction and our young people at the John Hume Foundation’s 40 year reflection on Peace and Prosperity in Ireland.

What a great day we had in the multi agency partnership Feel Good Armagh young peoples event at the weekend. Hosted in the Epicentre, young people participated in workshops addressing online safety, Take 5 Steps to Wellbeing & youth work team building activities. They even made some toys for rescue dogs!

As one young person said “I learned all about online safety & keeping safe online”.

Thanks to all the young people for their energy & fun. Thanks also to all the partners for all the hard work to make the event a success.
