The Youth Work delegates at the EESC meeting in Dublin Castle earlier this week - The two Michael’s, Jean Maire from National Youth Council of Ireland & the wonderful Danielle from Youth Work Ireland.

Danielle represented young people on one of the panels & advocated on their behalf very articulately - ‘A strong European Union isn’t one that talks at young people it’s one that speaks with young people’

Delighted to have attended the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) Extraordinary Bureau Meeting in Dublin Castle this week. It was a valuable opportunity to engage with leaders from across Europe on some of the key challenges and opportunities facing our societies today.

We were especially proud to see our Board President, , contribute to the debate on “Maintaining Core Values in a New Europe”, sharing the youth work perspective and highlighting the importance of inclusion, participation, and ensuring young people’s voices are heard in shaping the future of Europe.

“The root of all inequality is the process of othering, and its solution is the practice of belonging.” – John A. Powell

Today YouthAction staff, members and young people reflected on the events of the past week, and explored rights based Youth Work and the vital role it plays in promoting a more equal, fair and just society for all communities.

We welcomed American civil rights activist John A. Powell to our Research & Practice Connector event. As Director of the Othering & Belonging Institute at the University of California, Berkeley, John leads a research institute that brings together scholars, community advocates, communicators and policymakers to identify and eliminate barriers to a more inclusive, just and sustainable society, driving transformative change towards a more equitable world.

John shared powerful insights on the impact of ‘othering’, highlighting the importance of truly connecting with and ‘seeing’ people, sharing one another’s stories, and building trust as essential foundations for meaningful and lasting social change.

Developing a fairer, more equal and just society starts here.

Sincere thanks to John and to Padraic at Social Change Initiative for this opportunity.
