Who we are

Since our establishment in 1995, Moving On Music has grown to become one of the leading promoters of jazz, folk, roots, traditional, classical and “other” music in Northern Ireland. We are an independent, not for profit organisation and registered charity and endeavour to provide an eclectic array of entertainment and education services to the entire community. We are dedicated to idea

ls of innovation and originality, championing new developments in music, inspiring and nurturing musical talents and providing opportunities for everyone to get involved in music. What we do

Vision:
A Transformed Creative Future for Northern Ireland stimulated by ‘ Music with an Edge.’

Mission Statement:
To Achieve Excellence through Stimulating Music Development in NI throughout the next Five Years

Clustered Events
Throughout the year we will present various clustered events including Electronic, Roots and Contemporary Music weekends. These events showcase the very best of local, national and international musicians. Presentation and promotion of special one-off events in Belfast

We present and promote a large number of special one-off events in Belfast, which embrace all types of music and take place in various venues across the City. Co-ordinate tours

We co-ordinate tours, which feature local and international acts and cover a wide range of musical genres, such as jazz, traditional, classical, bluegrass and pop/rock. We then work with an extensive network of venues, local authorities and arts/community centres, to bring these tours to audiences across Northern Ireland. Brilliant Corners – a festival of jazz in Belfast
Each year, during the final week of March, we host Belfast’s only jazz festival, ‘Brilliant Corners’. The title is taken form the 1957 album by the great Thelonious Monk; a ground breaking work and one of the ‘1001 Albums to Hear before you Die’. The festival combines local talent with international contemporaries, and Belfast audiences have really embraced it, with numbers growing year on year. As always the focus is on quality music, and we aim to deliver the most exciting programme of jazz each year. BrilliantCornersBelfast.com
Education and Outreach Projects

Another important part of our work is our education and outreach projects, which aim to provoke a curiosity in music for the first time, nurture existing interests in music, or assist with the professional development for musicians pursuing careers in the industry. This includes workshops, mentoring, commissioning work, professional development schemes, talks, performance opportunities and informal advice. We have also delivered larger scale projects such as ‘New Songs for Sandy Row’, ‘Beyond The March’, ‘Stagecraft’ and ‘Flight of The Earls’. Event Management and Consultancy

Annually, we are involved in programming music events at some of Northern Ireland’s largest festivals, and act as a broker for local authorities and those involved in music events.

We're always delighted to have Chamber Choir Ireland up to Belfast, but we are especially excited for their upcoming maritime programme in the picturesque setting of the Drawing Room at Titanic Hotel 🚢

"The Irresistible Call" explores the seduction of a life at sea, and the complexities of it's exhilaration and danger. Expect dreamlike siren's songs, tales of devastating shipwrecks and fishermen's folklore, in the heart of the docks.

Sea you there 🌊

Delighted to announce a full band hometown show for Arborist in support of their forthcoming new album ‘Looking For Love’. We’ve had the company of this record for a couple of months now and can wholeheartedly say it’s another masterful piece of work from Mark McCambridge and co.

📅 Thu 19th Nov
📍 The Belfast Empire
💰 £17.50

https://www.movingonmusic.com/whats-on/arborist-looking-for-love-album-launch/

Love (or its absence) dominates the intimate songs on the new album from ARBORIST – the musical outlet of Belfast’s Mark McCambridge. With ‘Looking For Love’, we find protagonists scouring the dark corners of his home city, wiling-away afternoons in seedy clubs, wandering the streets in all weather, and reflecting on the harsh reality of the modern world, all in search of an elusive love. We need for it now more than ever.

In an increasingly noisy world, full of revision, bumph, and sham, it’s important to recognise greatness in the moment – why wait? Mark McCambridge is one of our very best, and each release cements that reputation further. We are delighted to welcome Arborist back to The Empire Music Hall for the Belfast launch of ‘Looking For Love’. Chances are, you’ll find it here.

NEW TOUR ANNOUNCED 👇

Ablaye Cissoko & Cyrille Brotto 💎

"Music to clear the mind and inspire the senses" - The Guardian

FRI 2 OCT - The Courthouse, Bangor
SAT 3 OCT - The Crescent Arts Centre, Belfast
SUN 4 OCT - New Gates Art Centre, Derry

After many great and unique collaborations, Ablaye Cissoko (kora + vox) pairs this time with the French diatonic accordion player Cyrille Brotto. A live show which feels like a conversation between two masters of their instruments, the duo takes us on a simultaneously spiritual and intimate journey throughout.

Ablaye is a part of a new generation of artists from Senegal. He embodies the crossover between Mandinka traditions and contemporary musical creation, and is recognised as one of the finest kora players as well as one of the great singers in West Africa over a prolific 20-year career 🇸🇳

As for Cyrille, he is easily the most sought-after diatonic accordionist in Europe. His ability to transport us into sensitive, rich, and diverse musical universes makes him a unique and captivating artist. We cannot wait to welcome this duo to Northern Ireland for the very first time.
