There is no "right" way to recover after a stroke. Recovery looks different for everyone, and progress can happen at different times and in different ways.

It's easy to compare yourself to others, but your journey is your own. Whether your progress feels fast, slow, visible or invisible, every step forward matters.

πŸ’™ Be kind to yourself. Progress is progress, no matter what it looks like.

To every partner, parent, child, sibling or friend who stepped up after someone they love had a stroke - this one is for you.

You didn't ask for the role. You just showed up. And you keep showing up, every single day. πŸ’™πŸ’š

More than 6 in 10 stroke survivors rely on an unpaid carer for day-to-day life. Most carers are untrained and unprepared when it starts. Many don't even think of themselves as a carer - just someone who loves someone.

We see you. We're grateful for you. And we're here for you too.

We hold a monthly virtual meeting exclusively for carers of stroke survivors - a safe, confidential space to talk, share and connect with people who truly understand.

Congratulations to Paula Beddoe, winner of the Different Strokes Peter Shave Volunteer of the Year Award 2026.

For 10 years, Paula has been a driving force behind our Tipton support group, helping younger stroke survivors rebuild confidence, connection and independence.

What started with a simple act of kindness, turning up to a first meeting with tea, coffee and biscuits, grew into a decade of extraordinary dedication. When the group’s founder, Ileen, sadly passed away, Paula stepped up to keep the group going and has supported countless survivors ever since.

Paula has helped members navigate everything from Blue Badge applications to rebuilding confidence after stroke, creating a space where people feel understood, supported and empowered.

Her story is also especially powerful as Different Strokes celebrates the incredible impact of volunteers across our community.

Thank you, Paula, for your warmth, compassion and unwavering commitment. You have changed lives.
