🕯️ Wave of Light Service 2026

This Baby Loss Awareness Week, we invite you to join MISS and Aberdeen Sands at the Forget Me Not Memorial Garden for a special evening of remembrance and reflection.

On Thursday 15 October, we will come together to remember and honour babies we have lost, alongside families across the world marking the annual Wave of Light.

Our evening will begin at 6:30pm and will include readings, live singers and quiet moments of reflection before, at 7pm, we light our candles together as part of the global Wave of Light. 🕯️

Whether your loss was recent or many years ago, you are warmly welcome to join us. You do not need to have received support from MISS, and you are welcome to attend alone or with family and friends.

📅 Thursday 15 October 2026
🕡 6:30pm – candle lighting at 7pm
📍 Forget Me Not Memorial Garden, Hazlehead, Aberdeen, AB15 8PT

There is no right or wrong way to remember. We hope this evening can offer a peaceful space to pause, reflect and remember together. 💙

NHS Grampian launches new maternity helpline for urgent care

NHS Grampian is making it easier for pregnant women and families to seek advice if they have an urgent concern about their health or the health of their baby.

The new Maternity Triage Telephone Line is now available 24/7 by calling 0300 131 2112, making sure urgent health concerns are answered in the same way regardless of where you live in Grampian. Developed in response to feedback from local women and families, the new phoneline draws on established best practice from across the UK.

Katie Colville, Director of Midwifery for NHS Grampian explained: “The new Maternity Triage Telephone Line is being coordinated by staff at both Aberdeen Maternity Hospital and Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin who are working together to make sure everyone gets consistent support and advice through this dedicated helpline.

“It’s a great step forward for our expert teams, and it will make all the difference to new parents or soon-to-be parents with one straightforward number to remember when they need it most.

“It doesn’t replace 999 in an emergency, and it’s not intended for routine queries people can discuss with their community midwives. But if you’re worried about things like reduced fetal movements, day or night, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.”

The Birth in Grampian website also includes lots of helpful information to guide people through their pregnancy journey. From coping with crying to tips for breastfeeding, or what to expect when you’re having a baby, it’s a useful resource to tap into. Visit: www.birthingrampian.scot.nhs.uk

For non-urgent support, always contact your community midwife during pregnancy and until your care is passed to your health visitor. You can find their number on the information handed out when you are first booked in with your maternity team, via the Badgernet app on your phone, or for the health visitor in your red book. If they are unable to answer at the time of your call, please leave a message and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.

To rearrange an appointment, such as a scan or clinic appointment, please use the contact numbers on the Birth in Grampian website.

As part of our recent visit to Ninewells, we had the opportunity to explore the Ninewells Community Garden and meet some of the wonderful local volunteers who help care for and maintain the space.

From polytunnels filled with fresh fruit and vegetables to colourful planting and peaceful areas to enjoy, it was lovely to see everything the garden has to offer.

We were particularly interested to visit the garden’s Women’s Health section and hear more about this special part of the space.

A huge thank you to the volunteers for taking the time to welcome us and show us around. 🌷💛
