Today, we proudly celebrate Africa Day โ€” a day that honours the rich history, resilience, diversity, cultures, and achievements of the African continent and its people across the world. ๐ŸŒโœจ

Africa Day traces its roots back to 25 May 1963, when African leaders came together to establish the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), now known as the African Union. The vision was clear: unity, liberation, collaboration, and a shared commitment to a stronger future for Africa and its people.

Africa Day is more than a celebration of geography โ€” it is a celebration of identity, heritage, innovation, creativity, resilience, and community. It reminds us of the importance of standing together, breaking barriers, and creating opportunities for future generations.

At Diversity Bridge SCIO, these values strongly resonate with our mission. We exist to build bridges across cultures and communities, promote equality, diversity and inclusion, amplify underrepresented voices, and create spaces where everyone feels seen, valued, and empowered.

As an organisation rooted in community cohesion and cultural understanding, we believe diversity is not something to fear โ€” it is something to celebrate. Africa Day reminds us that our differences are strengths and that together we can build communities founded on respect, solidarity, and shared humanity.

Today, we celebrate the countless contributions of African communities locally, nationally, and globally โ€” in business, healthcare, education, culture, leadership, technology, arts, and community development.

Happy Africa Day from all of us at Diversity Bridge SCIO. ๐ŸŒโค๏ธ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’š

Our Founder, Edward Obi, was delighted to attend the Spring Service Showcase at the Hampton by Hilton Aberdeen Westhill, organised by the Aberdeenshire Refugee Resettlement Team.

It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with a wide range of organisations and service providers who are all working hard to support refugees, people seeking sanctuary, and local communities across Aberdeenshire and beyond.

Events like this are so important because they strengthen partnerships, encourage collaboration, and help ensure that individuals and families accessing support are aware of the many services available to them.

At Diversity Bridge SCIO, we remain committed to building bridges across communities, promoting inclusion, and creating opportunities for people from all backgrounds to thrive.

A huge thank you to the Aberdeenshire Refugee Resettlement Team for organising such a valuable and welcoming event. We look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with partners across the region.

๐Ÿ’™ COMMUNITY APPEAL โ€“ HELP US BUILD A NEW COMMUNITY HUB IN ABERDEEN ๐Ÿ’™

"I have attached a few pictures" ๐Ÿ“ธ

In April 2024, Diversity Bridge SCIO, an Aberdeen based charity, was established to create stronger, more connected, and more inclusive communities.

Despite operating from a small office, we have already:

๐Ÿ“ฑ Delivered 2,200+ SIM cards to tackle
digital exclusion
๐ŸŽ Supported 1,200+ people through the
Choice & Dignity: Aberdeen initiative
๐ŸŒŸ Empowered 100+ young people
through our Youth Leadership
Programme
๐Ÿ’ผ Supported 342+ people with
employability skills
๐Ÿค Mentored individuals facing
disadvantage and isolation
๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Launched BridgCast, our community
internet radio station

Thanks to the kindness and generosity of an individual who believes in our mission, a property in Aberdeen city centre has now been provided for Diversity Bridge to use as a larger community hub โ€” allowing us to expand our impact and support even more people.

As a grassroots charity, we do not currently have funding to pay contractors, so we are appealing to any tradespeople or creatives who may be willing to volunteer some of their time to help us prepare the space for the community.

We are looking for volunteer support from:

๐Ÿ”จ Joiners
๐ŸŽจ Painters & decorators
๐Ÿ’ก Electricians
๐Ÿ› ๏ธ General tradespeople
๐ŸŽญ Artists & creatives

We are also looking for donations of desks, chairs, tables, storage units, office equipment, and community furnishings.

Even sharing this post could help us reach someone willing to help.

๐Ÿ™ Together, we can create something truly meaningful for Aberdeen.

๐Ÿ“ฉ Please message us via [email protected], if you can support in any way.

๐ŸŽฅ Diversity Bridge Featured by Thatโ€™s TV ๐ŸŽฅ

Recently, we were delighted to welcome Rachel Kinnear from That's TV Aberdeen to speak with our Founder and Chief Bridgebuilder, Edward Obi , about the important work being carried out through Diversity Bridge SCIO .

The conversation explored our mission of building stronger, more connected communities through inclusion, wellbeing, employability support, cultural engagement, and community cohesion across Aberdeen and beyond.

The interview also focused on our growing city-wide conversation campaign:

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ โ€œDoes Aberdeen Belong to Everyone?โ€

A powerful initiative encouraging honest conversations around belonging, representation, inclusion, identity, opportunity, and what it truly means to create a city where everyone feels seen, valued, and connected.

At Diversity Bridge (SCIO), we believe these conversations matter โ€” because stronger communities are built when people are willing to listen, engage, and work together.

We are grateful to Rachel and Thatโ€™s TV for helping amplify these important discussions and shining a light on community-led work happening across the city.

๐Ÿ’ฌ We would love to hear from you:

What does belonging mean to you?

Please share your thoughts in the comments.

๐Ÿ“ข Please like, comment, and share to help continue the conversation.

BIG NEWS! ๐ŸŽ‰

Diversity Bridge will soon have a place to call home in Aberdeen city centre! โค๏ธ

We are so excited about what this space could become for the community โ€” a place for connection, support, wellbeing, culture, inclusion, creativity, and bringing people together.

BUTโ€ฆ we need help to make it happen ๐Ÿ™

The unit needs work before we can properly open and use it, so weโ€™re reaching out to the community to see who might be able to lend a hand.

Weโ€™re looking for help with things like:

๐ŸŽจ Painting & decorating
๐Ÿ”จ Repairing walls and surrounding areas
โšก Electrical work
๐Ÿงฑ General repairs
๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ Creative wall art and murals
๐Ÿช‘ Furniture and office items

If you are:

โœ”๏ธ A local tradesperson
โœ”๏ธ A volunteer
โœ”๏ธ A creative artist
โœ”๏ธ A business with spare office furniture
โœ”๏ธ Someone who just wants to support
a good cause

โ€”we would LOVE to hear from you.

Weโ€™d especially love support from creatives who can help bring the walls to life with artwork that celebrates diversity, culture, community, and Aberdeen itself ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿดโœจ

We are also looking for:

๐Ÿช‘ Desks
๐Ÿช‘ Chairs
๐Ÿ“ฆ Storage units
๐Ÿ’ป Office equipment
โ˜• Community furniture and furnishings

Please tag anyone you think could help โ€” local businesses, community groups, tradespeople, charities, artists, or organisations.

Even sharing this post could help us reach the right people.

Letโ€™s show what community spirit in Aberdeen looks like โค๏ธ

๐ŸŒ‰ What an incredible moment for Diversity Bridge!

On 25th March 2026, something truly special happened.

A group of outstanding pupils from St Machar Academy stood on stage at their Youth Philanthropy Initiative Scotland Final and delivered a powerful presentation on why Diversity Bridge SCIO matters.

And they WON. ๐Ÿ†

๐Ÿ’ฅ Securing ยฃ3,000 to support our work in the community.

But this is about so much more than funding.

This is about young people using their voice to stand for something bigger than themselves.

This is about belief, passion, and purpose.

Despite being newly established, Diversity Bridge was chosen because these pupils saw the impact, understood the mission, and told our story in a way that truly moved the room.

Their message was clear:

๐Ÿ‘‰ Everyone deserves to feel seen
๐Ÿ‘‰ Everyone deserves opportunity
๐Ÿ‘‰ Everyone deserves a chance to thrive

๐ŸŽค Edward Obi, Founder of Diversity Bridge, said:

โ€œThis award means so much to usโ€”not just because of the funding, but because of what it represents.

To see young people stand up and champion Diversity Bridge with such passion was incredibly powerful. They didnโ€™t just presentโ€”they told a story that mattered.

I am so proud of them. They have truly flown the flag for Diversity Bridge.โ€

To the pupils of St Machar Academyโ€”thank you.

You didnโ€™t just represent usโ€ฆ you inspired us. ๐Ÿ™Œ

The future is in good hands.
