AYP: Our Story in Scotland – A Community History Project

Hello community 👋🏾
The interviews are well underway, and they’ve been powerful, moving, and deeply inspiring.

Our youth participants have been engaging with members of the African community in Aberdeen to document their stories, journeys, cultural heritage, and impact. This is more than a project; it’s a celebration of our past, our presence, and our future.

We’ve already had the honour of speaking with incredible individuals like Auntie Bertha Yakubu MBE, the founder of AWGS, whose words left us inspired and proud. We've even explored the legacy of figures like Princess Ndaté Yalla Mbodj, the last queen of Waalo, reminding us of the strength rooted in our history 👑✨

But we’re just getting started, and we need your voice too.
If you are African, living in or around Aberdeen, and would like to share your story or know someone who should — we’d love to hear from you! 💬
