The Northern Birthwork Collective

The Northern Birthwork Collective The Northern Birthwork Collective (NBC) aims to create culturally-safe and inclusive programming for Our work strives to be just and equitable.

Vision

Our collective vision is for all families, pregnant and birthing people from underserved communities to have access to holistic and dignified support, that is respectful and free of oppression and racism. Mission

Our mission is to provide cost supported programming and services for all stages of the reproductive journey including conception, pregnancy, birth, postpartum, misscarriage, los

s, abortion, and parenting. We intend to provide continuous education to members of our community and grow a territory wide network of birthworkers who are able to provide collective care that is grounded in our values. We acknowledge that colonization has had a great impact on our bodies and traditions, and believe that revitalizing traditional knowledge is a crucial step in our collective healing. Core Values

Advocacy: We believe that birthwork is a part of Reproductive Justice and are committed to working with communities and individuals to advocate for the human rights of all pregnant, birthing and postpartum people. Anti-Racism: We are committed to the work and practices that are necessary to not perpetuate harm caused by racism within our communities. Canada is a colonial country with oppressive and violent systems and structures. Inclusivity: Our communities are made beautiful by our diversity. We welcome and respect all Indigenous, Black and other people of colour, immigrants and refugees, people who have disabilities, and people of all gender identities, including two-spirit, trans and non-binary individuals. Cultural Safety: All people deserve quality care and access to services that support them in their reproductive health, birthing and parenting journey. We uplift traditional birthing and parenting practices that are grounded in our communities. Client and Family Centred: Our families are filled with grandmothers, grandfathers, aunties, uncles, cousins and chosen family members who are important to us and help raise our children. We honour the knowledge and strengths that come from all members of our community and support them as experts in their own health and well-being. Holistic: Support provided to families and individuals throughout conception to parenthood, including miscarriage, abortion and loss, should centre the whole person and nurture their mental, emotional, physical and spiritual well-being. Respect: We respect all members of our community no matter where they are in their journey. This includes all people receiving services for care and all members of the Northern Birthwork Collective.

☀️ Summer Recap at NBC ☀️

This summer has been full of growth, connection, and community.

Over the past few months, we've gathered with families, hosted reproductive health and childbirth education, strengthened relationships with birthworkers across the North, welcomed new faces, and continued providing pregnancy, birth, postpartum, abortion, and loss support throughout the Northwest Territories.

Behind the scenes, we've also been preparing for exciting changes. Every meeting, conversation, and collaboration has been rooted in our commitment to providing accessible, relationship-based, and culturally grounded care for northern families.

To everyone who attended an event, shared their story, volunteered, donated, partnered with us, or trusted us during such an important chapter of their lives—thank you. Your support continues to strengthen this work and reminds us why community care matters.

Here's to everything we've built together this year, and to all that's still to come. 💛

Doulas don’t replace partners, family, or friends in the birth space. We’re there to support the support.

At Northern Birthwork Collective, our role is to walk alongside you and your loved ones through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum in a way that feels supportive, informed, and rooted in your needs.

If you’re interested in having a doula, we’d be happy to connect you with one. Visit northernbirthwork.com(LINK IN BIO) to fill out our intake form and we’ll be in touch.

Even if you’re still on the fence or just curious about what support could look like for you and your family, reach out. We’re always happy to talk through your options.

🍁 Happy Canada Day from all of us at Northern Birthwork Collective. ❤️🤍❤️
We are wishing you a day filled with laughter, good food and time spent well with those you love.

We acknowledge with gratitude that Northern Birthwork Collective is located on the traditional home territory of the Yellowknife's Dene First Nation and the North Slave Métis.

It's important for us to recognize that we are on Treaty 11 land and that our work is rooted in community. We are continuously educated, supported, and inspired by our NBC community. We wouldn't have come this far without you!
