We continue to look back at the Skills Canada National Competition from May - for the second year in a row, Tanika Pike represented the North in Baking. 🎂🍰🥖

We are so proud of the work and dedication she put into preparing for the National competition, she truly knows how to turn simple ingredients into delicious creations!

Thank you to Shelleen Branch from YK Sweets for being an amazing Technical Chair and coach for Tanika. Having your support in this competition category was invaluable, we couldn’t have done it without you. We also want to give a shoutout to Caroline Browning-Kauffman who also joined us as a technical chair, it’s always amazing to get more people involved in the competition and supporting our youth. Thank you both!

In the Automobile Technology category at the 2026 Skills Canada National Competition in Toronto, we were proud to have Nolan Elliot represent the NWT! ⚙️🛞🔧

Nolan is an apprentice at AutoTec, and we’re so proud of the hard work, skill, and dedication he brought to the competition. Thank you to Brian and Vanessa from Auto Tec for supporting Nolan both as an apprentice and as a competitor.

We’d also like to extend a huge thank you to our Tech Chair, John Spoelder from Aurora Ford, for his time, expertise, and for his support and guidance during the national competition.

As we begin to look back on the 2026 Skills Canada National Competition, we want to start by giving a huge shoutout to all of the delegates who joined us in Toronto this year!

Thank you for taking the time to travel with us and for supporting our competitors throughout the competition. Your encouragement, guidance, and dedication made a meaningful difference every step of the way.

Delegates play such an important role at the National Competition - serving as coaches, mentors, representatives, and chaperones. Traveling with Team NWT simply wouldn’t be possible without our delegates. Thank you!

Skills Canada NWT is hiring a Youth Engagement and Programs Coordinator!✨

We’re looking for an organized, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic person to support the planning, delivery, and promotion of youth programs and events across the NWT.

This role includes working with students, schools, communities, industry partners, and government representatives to promote skilled trades and technology careers in the north.

You’ll be involved in:
✅ Program coordination
✅ Event planning
✅ Public speaking
✅ Communications
✅ Trades Awareness Initiatives

Skills Canada NWT will be at the Community Showcase in Yellowknife on September 10th! 🛠️
