📣 NORTHERN YOUTH AGES 18–30 — APPLY NOW!

Northern Youth Leadership is excited to partner with Waterlution to bring Youth 4 Resilient Communities (Y4RC) Cohort 5 to the Northwest Territories this fall! 🌲💧

Y4RC will bring together 30 youth from across Canada to build skills, relationships, and ideas for taking action on climate and water challenges in their own communities.

The program kicks off with a 7-day gathering in Yellowknife from October 24–30, including five nights at an Indigenous camp outside Yellowknife. Participants will spend time on the Land, learn alongside local Knowledge Holders and Indigenous leaders, take part in workshops and training, and connect with other young people working toward stronger communities across the country.

After the gathering, participants will receive training and mentorship as they develop and carry out their own community service project between October 2026 and March 2027.

🌎 Open to Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth ages 18–30 across Canada
🧡 First Nations, Inuit and Métis youth are strongly encouraged to apply
✈️ Travel, accommodation, local transportation and meals for the Yellowknife gathering are covered

IMPORTANT UPDATE – Protecting Our Lands Camp 2026

Due to current river conditions and awaiting spring mountain run-off, we have made the decision to postpone this year’s Protecting Our Lands Camp.

Safety comes first. We are still awaiting spring run-off from the mountains and monitoring the ice flow conditions coming out of Great Slave Lake. After speaking with local knowledge holders and reviewing conditions, we feel this is the best decision to ensure a safe and positive experience for everyone involved.

The good news — we are excited to announce a NEW route and NEW dates!

🛶 New Dates: June 18–28, 2026
📍 New Route: Tthets’ek’ehdeli (Jean Marie River) to Willow River

This camp is specifically for youth enrolled at Łı́ı́dlı̨ı̨ Kų́ę́ Regional High School.

We’re really excited about this updated route and the opportunities it brings for the youth to connect with the land, water, culture, and each other.

We’re sharing an exciting opportunity from Northwestel for northern students pursuing post-secondary education and future careers in the North.

✨ Northern Futures Scholarship ✨

Northern Futures is Northwestel’s flagship scholarship and career entry program designed to support students who want to build, lead, and stay in the North. The program combines financial support with mentorship and career opportunities.

📚 What recipients receive:
• $4,000 toward post-secondary education
• Priority consideration for internships and early-career opportunities at Northwestel
• Access to mentorship and career connections

📍 Who can apply:
• Northern residents within Northwestel’s operating area: Yukon, NWT, Nunavut, Northern BC, and Northern Alberta
• Students enrolled full-time in a 2-year diploma or 4-year degree program
• Fields of study include Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Sciences, Commerce, Business, Marketing, Communications, Human Resources, and more
• At least half of all scholarships are awarded to Indigenous students each year

🌊 2026 Saavittut Inuit Cultural Land Camp – Applications Now Open

We are excited to announce a new partnership between Northern Youth Leadership (NYL) and the Students on Ice Foundation, working alongside NYL Youth Ambassadors and SOI Alumni, to bring a land-based youth program to Mittimatalik (Pond Inlet), Nunavut this year.

This program brings youth together on the land and sea ice to learn from Elders, scientists, and community knowledge holders, grounded in Inuit knowledge systems, leadership, and cultural learning.

Location: Mittimatalik (Pond Inlet), Nunavut
Program Dates: August 31 – September 8, 2026
Application Deadline: May 8, 2026

Who Can Apply:
All Northern Youth Leadership + Students On Ice Alumni ages 18-30

🌿 About the Program

The Students on Ice Foundation is an internationally recognized organization that creates transformative, place-based learning experiences in the Arctic and Antarctic. Youth connect with Elders, scientists, educators, and leaders to build understanding of land, culture, environment, and global connections.

Saavittut 2026 is the first time this program is being delivered in Mittimatalik. It brings together youth, community knowledge holders, and partners to learn directly from the land and sea ice, grounded in Inuit knowledge systems.

• Hands-on sampling and microscope work
