A heartfelt thank you to the RBC Foundation for its generous $10,000 donation in support of wildfire relief efforts in the Northwest Territories.

This contribution will help United Way NWT respond to urgent needs and support local organizations assisting evacuees, host communities, and residents affected by the wildfires.

N95 Respirator Masks Available!
On behalf of the Government of Canada, the Canadian Red Cross is distributing N95 respirator masks and medical masks, free of charge, to organizations located in communities that may be affected by wildfire smoke, respiratory viruses and other public health events requiring personal protective equipment.

Organizations can request to receive N95 respirator masks and medical masks by filling out the online request form available here: redcross.ca/maskdistributionorderform

United Way NWT has partnered with the Hay River Soup Kitchen to administer Co-op gift cards for any evacuees who are in the Hay River area.

If you are an evacuee from Wrigley, please visit the Soup Kitchen to collect a card or enjoy a meal. You will be asked to show proof of address. There are limited cards, so first come, first served, and one per person.

All of the funds for these cards were administered through Co-op till donations. Thank you to those generous donations, we've been able to provide $5,000 in cards and support to the Kitchen.

United Way NWT will be supporting evacuees to return home to Fort Simpson and Liidlii Kue First Nation.

We will have a limited number of fuel cards available before folks depart Yellowknife, available at the Multiplex.

These cards will be administered by the Salvation Army team on Saturday July 18th. Please connect with a team member to receive a card.

We ask that individuals only take 1 per vehicle so that we can support as many vehicles as possible with a safe return home.

United Way NWT is deeply saddened by the passing of Patrick Scott, a generous community leader and a tremendous supporter of our work.

Patrick’s leadership and commitment in United Way NWT’s response to the 2021 flood and evacuation in Fort Simpson helped us support the community during a critical time and contributed to the growth of our emergency response work across the Northwest Territories. His impact will continue to be felt in the communities and by the people he helped us serve.

Most recently, we were honoured to partner with Patrick for his September 2025 head-shaving fundraiser in support of the Stanton Territorial Hospital Foundation, Inclusion NWT and United Way NWT. Even while facing his own cancer journey, Patrick continued to find ways to help others.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Patrick’s family, and his many friends, colleagues and community members. We are grateful for Patrick’s support, his belief in our work and the remarkable legacy he leaves behind.

He will be deeply missed.
