This long weekend, we are shining the spotlight on what each of you make possible. All the little things that turn out to be not so little after all. Like these carefully-chosen photos featuring Canadiana scenes and animals from coast to coast to coast.

We are excited to see how these will transform the hallways. Each one holds the possibility to spark conversation and unlock a sense of belonging across residents, volunteers, staff and family members.

These new additions to our home are being partially funded by our J&T Newman Family Fund. But more donations are needed! Join this life-changing project by making a donation today. https://l1nq.com/luthercourt Each $100 contribution helps cover the cost of 1 art print.

Because of you, Luther Court feels more like home. 🙏

Self-care starts with the heart. ❤️
Today, on International Self-Care Day, we're reminded that caring for ourselves is not just a ‘nice to have’ – it is essential.
One simple way to reset during a busy day is to pause, breathe, and reconnect with your heart. At Luther Court, staff and residents have been introduced to HeartMath by Karen November, Assisted Living HCA & HeartMath Facilitator. Residents like Margaret wear their hand-made bracelets as a reminder to 'just breathe'.

HeartMath is a science-backed approach that uses intentional breathing and positive emotions to help reduce stress, build resilience, and create a greater sense of calm.
It only takes a minute.
✨ Pause.
✨ Take a slow, deep breath.
✨ Focus your attention on your heart space.
✨ Think of someone or something you're grateful for.
✨ Let that feeling guide your next moment.
Small moments of self-care can have a lasting impact—not only on your own wellbeing, but on everyone around you.
How will you care for your heart today? Share your favourite self-care practice in the comments. 💚

Magic happens when generations connect.

Thanks to dedicated student volunteers like Sakshi, there's magic everywhere at Luther Court! Youth volunteers like Sakshi are growing our continuum of belonging.

Inspired to carry on the legacy of her great-grandmother Dorothy - who enjoyed her final years as a resident before passing away at age 106 - Sakshi spends her summers volunteering. Her weekly visits with residents like 89-year-young Margaret sprinkle a little magic in 'everyday life' at Luther Court.

Margaret and Sakshi have become more like family - they hug and enjoy catching up over lunch or a cup of tea.

Become a youth or adult volunteer this summer and join our family. Apply online at luthercourt.org

During Disability Pride Month, we are celebrating everyone who experiences disability and all of the positive ways they make life better at Luther Court and beyond.

With big thanks to United Way BC's Work Experience Opportunities Grant (WEOG) funded by Government of British Columbia and Canada, we are able to strengthen our micro-neighbourhood. By supporting meaningful group activities and events, UW BC's WEOG participant Isabel is building belonging - and ensuring that each person can feel at home at Luther Court. We are so grateful for the shared opportunity to learn and grow together.

💚 spotted today at Luther Court!

Health Care Assistants Sara and Edgar aren't just twinning in teal—they're united by something more meaningful. Together, they represent more than 30 years of compassionate care - supporting older adults with kindness, dignity, and heart.

When we asked what makes Luther Court so special, their answer was immediate:

"This has become our chosen family."

That's the kind of community we strive to build every day—a place where no one feels alone, where friendships flourish, and where people of all ages and abilities experience genuine belonging.

This , you can help create more Meaning Moments. Your generosity strengthens the activities, connections, and sense of family that make Luther Court feel like home. Give today and help change lives. https://luthercourt.org/get-involved/donate-now/

What’s on your list for summertime fun? 🏖️

Sometimes all you need is a beach ball, some pool noodles, and a room full of laughter.

Playful moments like these do more than brighten the day—they spark movement, smiles, and connection. At Luther Court, joy is often found in the simplest moments shared together.

Every laugh counts. 💙

Retirement hasn't stopped Av McLeod. She just can't quit Luther Court. And she is not alone. As Avril says, "If you have an opportunity to do good, you should do it".

We are grateful for the many long-time staff who come back to help out after they retire - either as volunteers, donors or casual staff. Once you are a member of our LC family, you are a member for life!

Avril was recognized last year for her 3 decades of impact by BC Care Providers Association - as Long-term Care Provider of the Year - and by CHEK News as an Inspiring Island Woman.

Who inspires you at Luther Court? Tell us in the comments who you would like us to feature in an upcoming post.

En français, s’il vous plaît!
We love it when former volunteers come back to visit. We were honoured to be included in Peter’s summer travel plans. You may have gone to one of Peter’s concerts in the past or seen him volunteering in our long-term care house. We are grateful for the 423 hours of music and connection that Peter contributed to our Luther Court family.

Peter J Jasmin, we hope to see you again next time you visit from La Belle Provence! Merci beaucoup!

Did you know that many of our residents speak other languages? We are always looking for volunteers to visit 1-on-1 or lead group activities in different languages. Learn more about our volunteer opportunities for youth and adults here: https://luthercourt.org/get-involved/volunteer-with-us/

Youth volunteer, Abigail brought her mom, Corinne and grandmother, Doreen for a tour to show them where she gives back. For more than 1 year, Abigail has been a meal companion at Luther Court. Her favourite part of dining with residents is hearing their stories.

These 3 generations of women are celebrating 50+ years of giving back to seniors in the community.

What do you love most about volunteering? Tell us in the comments - we want to hear from you!
