One of the most important services we provide is emotional support. We understand the common feelings of isolation, grief, anger, guilt and exhaustion faced by many family caregivers. We offer an opportunity to speak with others in a friendly and confidential atmosphere. This support is offered either over the telephone or in-person at our office.

"I didn't expect caregiving to be this hard."

It's something we hear often.

Most caregivers find themselves in the role without training, a roadmap, or a clear place to turn for answers.

That's why the Family Caregivers of BC Caregiver Learning Centre exists.

Whether you're looking for practical advice, emotional support, or information about the caregiving journey, you'll find trusted resources created with caregivers in mind.

Check out helpful articles, webinars, podcasts, videos, and tools - all in one place.

What would happen if the caregiver in your family couldn't keep going?

For thousands of families across BC, that's a question they face every day.

Home support doesn't just help seniors. It helps the family members and friends who care for them.

Let's build a system that supports both.

Healthcare starts at home — and so does the future of care in British Columbia.

More than 1 in 4 people provide unpaid care to a family member or friend.

Many spend 5+ hours every day helping loved ones navigate illness, disability, aging, and complex health needs.

Family caregivers are a critical part of our healthcare system, yet too many are doing this work without the support they need.

The result is caregiver burnout, financial strain, and increasing pressure on hospitals and long-term care.

When people cannot access affordable, reliable home support, they are often left with few options. Investing in home support helps older adults remain safely in their communities while reducing pressure across the healthcare system.

We're proud to join with the BC Care Providers Association, BC Health Coalition, Independent Long-Term Care Councils Association of BC, COSCO – Council of Senior Citizens' Organizations of BC, Jewish Seniors Alliance of British Columbia, and the Office of the Seniors Advocate in calling for improved home support for seniors across B.C.

When home support isn't available, family caregivers are often the ones left to fill the gap.

That can mean increased stress, exhaustion, isolation, and difficult decisions no family should have to face without support.

Better access to home support helps older adults remain safe, independent, and connected to their communities, while ensuring caregivers receive the support they need, too.

Because caring for a loved one shouldn't mean carrying the entire system on your shoulders.

Who has supported you during your caregiving journey?

Caregivers spend so much time caring for others, it's easy to forget they need support too.

That's why we created our monthly Caregiver Newsletter.

It's a free resource filled with practical advice, upcoming events, caregiver stories, and support opportunities to help you feel informed and connected.

If you're a family caregiver, you already know how much work goes into helping someone stay at home.

You provide rides, manage medications, coordinate appointments, prepare meals, offer emotional support, and often fill the gaps when services aren't available or affordable.

Families need support to continue providing care at home.

Proud to join six other organizations, advocating for affordable home support for seniors in BC.

Because aging at home should be an option, not a privilege.

"I recently became a caregiver for my elderly mother and I'm struggling to adjust. My life has changed so much that I feel like I've lost a part of myself. How do I find meaning and balance again?"

Our Response:

Many caregivers experience these feelings, even if they don't talk about them.

Many caregivers experience changes to their identity, relationships, routines, and sense of self.

It's common to feel overwhelmed, exhausted, or disconnected from the things that once brought you joy.

A few gentle reminders:

Make time for yourself, even if it's only 10–20 minutes.
Reach out for help you need it.
Explore supports in your community.
Connect with people who understand the caregiving journey.

Finding your new rhythm takes time. Be patient with yourself.

Happy BC Seniors' Week!

From June 1–7, we celebrate the older adults who have helped shape our families, communities, and province through a lifetime of experience, resilience, and wisdom.

This year's theme, Experience Matters, recognizes the valuable lessons, perspectives, and stories that seniors share with future generations.

If you're a senior, we'd love to hear from you:

What's one piece of advice you'd like to pass on to younger generations?
What's something you know now that you wish you knew earlier in life?

Share your thoughts in the comments and help us celebrate the wisdom that comes with experience.
