The Shelbourne Community Kitchen is a neighbourhood food centre in Saanich. For a listing of closure dates, please visit our website.

Our mission is to create opportunities with people living on a low income to cook, grow, share and connect for improved health and wellbeing. The Kitchen closes for the last week of every month in order to tackle large projects and deep cleaning.

🍁🎶 MEET THE ARTIST: EDIE DAPONTE 🎶🍁

We’re thrilled to welcome Edie DaPonte to the stage for TRUE NORTH: An Evening of Canadian Music & Community on Friday, October 23!

A beloved Vancouver Island vocalist and songwriter, Edie brings a unique warmth, energy and musicality to every performance. Her music draws from her rich Portuguese heritage, jazz and Bossa Nova influences, as well as her deep connection to life on Vancouver Island. She has performed and recorded with many of the Island’s outstanding musicians, and we’re excited to have her leading an incredible evening of music at True North.

Edie will be joined on stage by Attila Fias on piano and Joey Smith on guitar. In addition to performing songs from their favourite Canadian artists, we will be treated to songs written and performed by Edit and Atilla .

And this performance is part of something even bigger. True North is the annual benefit concert for Shelbourne Community Kitchen and the launch of our Donate & Double Your Impact campaign. Every dollar raised through the evening will be matched, doubling the impact of your support for local food security programs.

Today is Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (also known as Orange Shirt Day). It is a time to honour residential school survivors, their families, and communities. It’s a day for reflection, learning, and meaningful conversations about the history and ongoing legacy of the residential school system.
Every child matters. 🧡

The Kitchen will be closed today, Tuesday, September 30th.

🎶🍁 True North: An Evening of Canadian Music & Community Connection - Friday October 23rd

Join us for a special evening of Canadian focused music, food, beverages, and community connection, to Double Your Impact in support of food security in our community.

True North 🍁is the theme for this year’s annual benefit concert and launch of Shelbourne Community Kitchen’s Donate & Double Your Impact matching campaign. Every dollar raised through the evening will be matched, doubling the impact of your support for The Kitchen’s many food security programs and services.

🍁6:00pm - Mix & Mingle

Start the evening by connecting with friends, neighbours, volunteers and fellow Kitchen supporters.

Enjoy chef-made Canadian inspired appetizers and desserts, drinks, as well as featured cocktails/ mocktails, and Canadian-inspired fare as you mingle and settle in for the evening.

Your $75 ticket includes one beverage and one food item of your choice. Additional food and beverages will also be available for purchase, with alcoholic and non-alcoholic options.

🍁7:00pm -The Concert

The music takes centre stage at 7:00 p.m., featuring a fantastic lineup of local musicians!

Bagatelle blends the rhythmic pulse of traditional Québécois music with the infectious energy of bluegrass. The band delivers a high-energy performance filled with tight harmonies and irresistible toe-tapping tunes.

Returning in 2026 is the powerhouse vocalist Edie DaPonte, whose incredible voice, warmth, and stage presence always leave a lasting impression. This year, Edie will be joined by an absolutely stellar band: Joey Smith on guitar and Attila Fias on piano. Together, they’ll bring a beautiful mix of soulful vocals, exceptional musicianship, and plenty of energy to the stage.

🍁Intermission -Silent Auction

Take a break from the music and check out our silent auction, featuring a selection of wonderful items and experiences.

🍁All Evening -Double Your Impact

True North 🍁is more than a night out, it’s also the launch of our annual Donate & Double Your Impact campaign.

All proceeds raised through the event will be matched, meaning your ticket, silent auction bid and any donation you make can have twice the impact.

100% of proceeds raised will support the Shelbourne Community Kitchen’s many food security programs and services, helping create opportunities with people experiencing food insecurity to cook, grow, share and connect.

🎃 Pump Up The Pantry! ❤️

Our Pantry shelves could use a little extra love, and we need our amazing community to help us fill them back up!

We’re supporting more than 2,000 adults and 1,000 children in our community, and every can, box, and roll helps us keep good food flowing to local families and seniors. 💚

📅 Food drive runs until October 31, 2026!

We’re especially looking for:
🥫 Canned plain beans
🍅 Canned tomatoes
🐟 Canned proteins
🍝 Pasta sauce
🧻 Toilet paper

All donations are gratefully accepted! Every item helps.

💚 Want to do even more? Host a food drive at your workplace, school, faith community, neighbourhood, or with your friends and family. We would love to have you Pump Up The Pantry with us!

🎒💛 WE DID IT! $14,562 AND STILL COUNTING! 💛🎒

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, we exceeded our $12,000 goal for Kids in K–12 through our Back-to-School Stock Up Campaign...and the donations are still coming in! 🥹💛

This support will help make the back-to-school season a little more manageable for local families experiencing food insecurity. It means kids can head back to school with more of the supplies they need most, while their families can count on extra grocery support throughout the year through family dinners and The Kitchen’s Pantry Program.

Our community showed up in so many different ways, and we are so thankful for you!

A HUGE thank you to Petra and Tuscany Village for sponsoring our BBQ fundraiser and hosting our Fill the Van Food Drive — where our community donated an incredible 500 lbs of food and raised over $1,300! 🚐🥫💛

And thank you to The Village Restaurant for creating a special Back-to-School Feature Benny, helping turn a delicious meal into support for local families. 🍽️💛

To everyone who donated, shared our campaign, bought a Benny, came to the BBQ, filled the van, or simply helped spread the word, thank you!

The back-to-school campaign may be wrapping up, but our work continues. We’re here all year long, making sure children and families have access to healthy food, connection and community support when they need it most.

Thank you for helping us make this back-to-school season a little brighter for local kids and families. 🎒✨

Happy Labour Day! 🎉 Today, we celebrate the hardworking individuals who keep our community vibrant and strong. We recognize and appreciate everyone in the labor force, who tirelessly contribute to building a better world for us all. We’re inspired by those who work hard to provide essential services, and by those who labour to feed, care for, and uplift others.

We also recognize and thank all of our volunteers, board, and staff, for their hard work and dedication, and allowing us to do what we do here at The Kitchen!
