BIBLE-IN-A-YEAR
Matthew 1-2 | Psalm 81

MONDAY, August 24

There Is a Place for You
Have you ever walked into a room and immediately wondered if you belonged there?

Maybe no one said anything. Maybe nothing obvious happened. Yet somewhere inside, a familiar question surfaced: Do I really fit here?

Most of us know that feeling.

We learn early in life to look for signs that tell us whether we are accepted. We notice who welcomes us, who overlooks us, where we fit, and where we feel different. Over time, those experiences can begin shaping not only how we see ourselves, but how we imagine God sees us.

But the gospel tells a different story.

God has not reluctantly made room for you. He has not allowed you to stand quietly at the edge of His family. Through Jesus, He has brought you all the way in.

Scripture calls it adoption.

You are His child.

That means your deepest identity is not determined by who accepted you or rejected you, where you came from, what you have accomplished, or how well you think you fit.

It begins with whose you are.

This week, we are going to explore what it means to live from that truth. We will discover a Father who receives the forgotten, gives His children an inheritance, establishes their identity, and then sends them to carry His heart into the world.

So before we go any further, remember the simple words Pastor Quincy invited us to say.

Look down at where your feet are planted.

You belong here.

Think
Q - Where are you most tempted to question whether you truly belong?
Q - How might knowing you are God's child, change the way you enter that space?

Read
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! - 1 John 3:1

Pray
Father, thank You that through Jesus I do not have to wonder whether there is a place for me with You. Help me understand more deeply what it means to be Your child. Quiet the voices of rejection and insecurity and teach me to live from the confidence that I am fully known, fully loved, and fully Yours. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

SUNDAY, August 23

Lean In
There are moments when we expect God to be loud.

We look for the dramatic breakthrough, the unmistakable answer, and the extraordinary experience. We imagine that if God really wants our attention, surely, He will make Himself impossible to miss.

Elijah may have expected something similar.

There was a powerful wind. Then an earthquake. Then a fire. Yet Scripture tells us that the Lord was not in them. After all the noise came a gentle whisper.

Think about what a whisper requires.

Closeness.

You do not whisper to someone across a crowded room. You whisper when someone is near. And if you want to hear what they are saying, you lean in.

That is a beautiful picture of where this week's journey has been taking us.

We return to our first love. We recognize God in the ordinary. We release the bitterness that weighs us down. We remain in His presence. We reconnect with His people.

And then we learn to rest.

Sabbath reminds us that we do not have to live at the relentless pace of the world around us. We can stop striving. We can put down the phone, silence the notifications, step away from productivity, and receive rest as a gift from God.

In that quiet, we discover something beautiful.

God is near.

Perhaps the refresh your soul needs will not come through adding something else to your life. Perhaps it will come through stopping. Resting. Listening.

The Father is still speaking.

Lean in.

After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. - 1 Kings 19:12

Reflect…
Q - What noise or activity do you need to intentionally quiet so you can create space to rest in God's presence and listen for His voice?
Pray…
Father, thank You that You are near. Teach me to stop striving and receive the gift of rest. Quiet the noise around me and within me so I can recognize Your voice. Give me the courage to slow down, the discipline to lean in, and a heart that remains deeply rooted in Your presence. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

SATURDAY, August 21

You Were Not Made to Do This Alone
We live in the most connected era in human history. We have more ways to reach each other than any generation before us. And yet, so many people feel profoundly alone.

Loneliness is not always the absence of people. It is the absence of meaningful connection. You can be surrounded by a crowd and still feel unseen. You can have hundreds of followers and still feel unknown.

God designed us for real community. Not just digital community, not just surface-level small talk, but the kind of relationships where people know your name, notice your absence, and speak truth into your life. The kind of community that confronts the lies the enemy whispers when you are isolated.

This week, we have returned to God, found Him in the ordinary, chosen forgiveness, and learned to remain in His presence. But none of this journey is meant to be walked alone. We need each other.

If you have been pulling away from community, whether out of hurt, busyness, or simply the habit of isolation, today is a good day to take one small step back toward people. Reach out to someone.

Show up. Let yourself be known.

God is near, and He has placed people around you who are part of how He loves you. Do not let the enemy convince you that you are better off alone. You were made for this.

Read…
And let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching. - Hebrews 10:25

Reflect…
Q - In what ways have you been settling for surface-level connection?
Q - What is one step you could take this week toward a more meaningful relationship with someone in your community?

Pray…
Lord, thank You for placing people in my life who reflect Your love. Give me the courage to show up, to be known, and to invest in the kind of community You designed me for. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Stay a Little Longer
Most of us treat prayer like a to-do list item. We check in, say what we need to say, and move on. We read a verse or two and call it done. And then we wonder why our faith feels thin.

What if the missing ingredient is not more information, but more time?

Jesus does not want occasional visits from you. He wants you to remain. To stay. To linger in His presence the way you would with someone you deeply love and never want to leave.

This kind of intimacy does not happen by accident. It has to be cultivated. It means slowing down your prayers instead of rushing through them. It means sitting with a passage of Scripture long enough to let it speak. It means choosing stillness in a world that rewards constant motion.

We have been on a journey this week. We returned to our first love, we learned to find God in the ordinary, and we chose the freedom of forgiveness. Now comes the part that holds it all together: remaining. Staying close. Making His presence the place you come back to again and again.

God is not in a hurry with you. He is not checking the clock. He is simply present, and He is inviting you to be present too. What would it look like to linger just a little longer today?

Read…
Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. - John 15:4

Reflect…
Q - What would it practically look like for you to linger in God’s presence today instead of rushing through your time with Him?

Pray…
Father, teach me to be still. Help me to stop treating time with You as something to get through and instead help me to treasure it as the gift it truly is. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

The Freedom You Have Been Waiting For
There are wounds that never fully healed. Maybe you have carried one for years, tucked away where you hoped no one would see it. But bitterness has a way of surfacing. It colors how you see people, how you trust, and how freely you can move forward.

Forgiveness is one of the hardest things God asks of us. And it is also one of the most freeing.

Here is what forgiveness is not: it is not saying what happened was okay. It is not pretending the hurt did not exist. It is not even necessarily reconciling with the person who hurt you. Forgiveness is releasing your grip on the pain so that it no longer has a grip on you.

Bitterness is bo***ge. It keeps you chained to a moment that has already passed, and it quietly drains the life from your present. The enemy would love for you to build a permanent home around a temporary wound. But God says it is time to move.

We have spent the first two days returning to God and learning to find Him in the ordinary. But sometimes what keeps us from drawing close is not distraction. It is the weight of unforgiveness we are still carrying.

You were not made to carry this. Lay it down. Not for their sake, but for yours. Freedom is waiting on the other side.

Read…
Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. - Ephesians 4:31-32

Reflect…
Q - Is there someone you have not fully forgiven?
Q - How might holding onto that hurt be keeping you from experiencing the closeness with God you are longing for?

Pray…
Jesus, I choose today to release what I have been holding onto. Heal the places in me that are still wounded and give me the grace to forgive the way You have forgiven me. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

WEDNESDAY, August 19

God Is in the Ordinary
We often wait for a dramatic moment to encounter God. A mountaintop experience, a powerful service, a sign we cannot ignore. But what if God has been showing up all along in the quiet, ordinary moments we keep rushing past?

Elijah learned this the hard way. Exhausted and discouraged, he expected God to show up in the wind, the earthquake, or the fire. But God was not in any of those. He came in a still, small voice. A whisper.

A whisper only reaches you if you are close enough to hear it. And in a world that is louder than ever, leaning in has become a countercultural act.

God is not hiding. He is not waiting for you to earn a special moment with Him. He is present in your morning coffee, in a quiet drive, in a simple prayer before bed. He is woven into the fabric of your everyday life, and He is speaking. The question is whether we are still enough to notice.

Yesterday, we talked about returning to your first love. Today, the invitation goes one step further. Not only return, but look around. God is already here, in the middle of your ordinary day, waiting to be found.

Do not miss the sacred because you are waiting for the spectacular.

Read…
After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. - 1 Kings 19:12

Reflect…
Q - What ordinary moment in your daily life might God be using to speak to you that you have been too distracted or hurried to notice?
Pray…
Lord, slow me down today. Open my eyes to Your presence in the small and simple moments and give me ears to hear Your voice above all the noise. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

TUESDAY, August 18

Come Back to the Heart of It
It is surprisingly easy to drift. Not all at once, but slowly, quietly, one distraction at a time. Before long, you are busy, scrolling, striving, and somewhere along the way, the closeness you once felt with God has faded.

This is not a new struggle. The church in Ephesus faced the same thing. They were doing all the right things, serving, enduring, and standing firm. But Jesus looked past their activity and saw something missing. They had lost their first love.

Here is the good news: losing your way does not mean you are lost for good. Jesus does not respond with disappointment or distance. He responds with an invitation. Come back. Return. The door is still open.

God is not asking you to overhaul your entire life today. He is asking for your heart. Not your performance, not your productivity, just you. The relationship was always the point.

If you have felt distant lately, if your faith has started to feel more like a routine than a relationship, take heart. That longing you feel is not a sign of failure. It is actually a sign that something in you still remembers what closeness with God feels like, and it wants to find its way back.

You are not too far gone. You are not too busy. You are not too broken. You are simply being invited home.

Read…
Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. - Revelation 2:4-5

Reflect…
Q - When did your relationship with God feel most alive?
Q - What was different about your life in that season?

Pray…
Father, I confess that I have let busyness and distraction crowd out my closeness with You. Draw me back to Your heart today and help me want You more than anything else. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

BIBLE-IN-A-YEAR
2 Chronicles 13-17 | Psalm 74

MONDAY, August 17

It’s Time to Wake Up
Sometimes we do not realize how tired our souls have become.

Life keeps moving. We keep working, scrolling, serving, responding, and getting through the next thing. Nothing may seem obviously wrong, yet somewhere beneath all the activity, our hearts can slowly become numb.

We stop noticing God.

We stop feeling deeply.

We become so accustomed to distraction that we forget what it feels like to be fully awake to His presence.

But God is calling us back.

As summer begins to wind down and the pace of life starts to pick up again, this is an opportunity to resist simply rushing into the next season. Before the schedules fill and the demands increase, God offers us something better: a deep refresh.

Not merely physical rest, although we may need that too. This is a refresh of the soul.

Over the coming days, we will consider what it means to return to our first love, recognize God in ordinary moments, release the wounds we have carried, linger in His presence, and reconnect with the community He has given us.

None of this is about becoming more religious. It is about becoming more awake to the God who has been near all along.

You may feel spiritually tired. You may recognize places where distraction, disappointment, or busyness have slowly dulled your hunger for God.

His response is not condemnation.

It is invitation.

Wake up. Come closer. Let Him refresh you.

Think
Q - Where in your life have you become spiritually tired, distracted, or numb?
Q -What might God be inviting you to awaken to this week?

Read
Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you? - Psalm 85:6

Pray
Father, wake up the places in me that have grown tired or numb. Quiet the distractions that have pulled my attention away from You and renew my desire for Your presence. As I walk through this week, refresh my heart and draw me closer to You. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
