The Engineers Foundation provides scholarships to encourage engineering students to pursue careers in the profession. We make funds available to each engineering school, which awards the scholarships according to criteria established by the Foundation. The scholarships are financed through donations from Ontario professional engineers.

This past weekend the Foundation had the opportunity to attend the October PEO Symposium. The event provided a valuable opportunity to personally connect with the engineering community and raise awareness of the difference their support can make for future engineers.

We got a chance to see that impact firsthand by meeting past scholarship recipient, Sharon Chen, and hearing about her journey since receiving support from the Foundation. It was a very rewarding experience, and we are proud to continue to make change in the lives of engineering students.

On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation we take a moment to remember the harm done by the Canadian residential school system and it's lasting impacts on the communities it touched. Some children never returned home, altering families and communities. Children were stripped of their self-esteem, culture, and freedom.

On the path to reconciliation, we make a commitment never to forget the legacy of these schools.

Since receiving the Foundation for Education Undergraduate Scholarship Jessica Rudd successfully completed a 16-month co-op placement at Vale’s Port Colborne Refinery and graduated with her B.Eng. in chemical engineering from Laurentian University.

"I am now in the first year of my graduate program in engineering science, working with microalgae to produce compounds for biomaterials applications! I also still enjoy participating in school clubs and events, such as the Laurentian University Chemical Engineering Chapter and the CIM-MetSoc Laurentian Student Chapter. Outside of school, I enjoy riding and showing horses, astronomy, keeping reptiles, and anything to do with the outdoors," said Jessica.

Say hello to Martin Herman, the newest addition to our Board of Directors!

Martin isn't an engineer himself. He's actually a lawyer with over 25 years of experience. But his love for aviation runs deep, and he's spent much of his career working alongside engineers at Bombardier Aerospace, De Havilland Canada, and MDA Space.

At the heart of it all, Martin just wants to help engineering students thrive.
