Transcending Care: An Information Session on Gender Affirming Care Resources by Trans Care BC

Planned Parenthood - Newfoundland and Labrador S*xual Health Centre is partnering with Trans Care BC for Transcending Care: A Virtual Information Session on Gender Affirming Care Resources for health and social service providers on November 3rd at 5:30 pm NDT.

Trans Care BC’s Gwen Haworth and Roscoe Sullivan will present multiple clinician and community resources launched as part of the Health Canada S*xual and Reproductive Health Fund to support the care of trans, Two-Spirit and nonbinary clients. Developed in collaboration with clinicians and community members, the new Trans Care BC resources include clinical courses and support tools, along with community-facing resources promoting health literacy and navigating options for affirming care.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
-Explain the importance of gender-affirming relational practice in the care of gender diverse clients.
-Locate clinical resources for health care teams supporting gender diverse clients as care needs arise.
-Locate and provide community-facing resources to gender diverse clients navigating various care needs.

Today is Inters*x Awareness Day!

An annual day of awareness organized every year to highlight the human rights situations facing inters*x persons worldwide, and to celebrate their visibility.

October 26th marks the anniversary of the first public demonstration by inters*x people in Boston. Where they demonstrated and shared their pain in a very public way, denouncing non-consensual infant ge***al surgeries and demanding the medical industry take notice.

Today is to support ending shame, secrecy, non-consensual ge***al and medically unnecessary surgeries on inters*x children. The day also provides an opportunity for reflection and political action. Between October 26 and November 8, inters*x organizations bring attention to the challenge’s inters*x individuals face. Culminating in the Inters*x Day of Remembrance also known as Inters*x Solidarity Day on November 8th, the birthday of Herculine Barbin.

Please also take this day and following days up to Inters*x Day of Remembrance to celebrate our Inters*x community members as we stand with them.

It’s the start of Ace Awareness Week (October 25th to October 31st), formerly As*xual Awareness Week.

Ace Week is an international campaign held annually during the last full week of October. It’s dedicated to raising awareness and expanding education of the ace community. This is the 16th year for the Awareness Week, since founder Sara Beth Brooks identified as as*xual back in 2010. Learn more about the events happening around the world at https://aceweek.org

As*xuality ("Ace") is a s*xual orientation defined by experiencing little to no s*xual attraction to others. Other identities that are included in the Ace Spectrum are demis*xual, grey-as*xual, and aromantic (aro-ace).

Quadrangle NL would like to say thank you to Safe Harbour Outreach Project (SHOP) for including us as part of their 2026 S*x Worker Activism School.

Our Trans Navigator Neksa, had this to say about the importance of the event and Quad NL’s participation.

“ Trans people are overrepresented in the s*x work industry due to the employment discrimination that we experience. It's important that we maintain connections and communications between the organizations that serve our communities so that we can work together now and into the future."
