Thank you, Saint John! 💚 We are incredibly grateful to our community for recognizing the vital work we do in the childcare services field here at First Steps.Our team is deeply dedicated and passionate about supporting the amazing women and children in our programs every single day.✨ Did you know?We have a full-time, onsite Childcare Development Coordinator who meets with moms and their little ones weekly! This ensures babies are hitting healthy milestones, provides essential education and programming for moms, and opens the door for crucial early intervention. 👶🌱In addition, we have 2 AMAZING Early Learning Educators in our onsite licensed daycare, the First Steps Early Learning Center! They bring so much joy, safety, and learning to our children's daily lives. 🎨📚Thank you for standing with us as we empower families in our community!

💜 First Steps is excited to announce our new partnership with Shelter Movers

We’re proud to be partnering with an organization that is doing such important work to support survivors of gender-based violence as they take steps toward safety and a new beginning.

Shelter Movers provides free moving and storage services to survivors, helping make the transition to a safer home a little easier.

As part of this partnership, First Steps will serve as a point of contact, helping connect individuals who may benefit from Shelter Movers’ services with the support and resources available through this incredible organization.

We believe that meaningful change happens when we work together and build strong connections within our community. We’re grateful to Shelter Movers for the work they do and are looking forward to working alongside them to help make those important first steps toward safety and stability a little easier. 🌱💜

🏕️ Camping Week!

Our infant room became a little camping adventure! The children explored a cozy tent, discovered our pretend fire, and enjoyed experiencing camping-inspired play together.

Through climbing, crawling, touching, observing and imaginative exploration, the infants were encouraged to follow their curiosity and explore at their own pace. Camping Week supported well-being, belonging, communication, and play & exploration as we created meaningful opportunities to connect with nature, each other, and our community.

📚 A New Adventure at the Book Sale

Today, the infants went on an exciting community outing to a book sale! As we explored the space, they experienced a new environment filled with lots of people, sounds, sights, and books. The infants had opportunities to look around, observe the busy world around them, and take in this new experience alongside their educators and friends.

Books surrounded us everywhere we looked, encouraging curiosity and exploration. The adventure continued when we chose some books to bring back to our learning environment, extending the experience and allowing the infants to revisit and enjoy what they discovered.

Connecting to the New Brunswick Curriculum Framework (NBCF):
This experience supported the infants as active learners by providing meaningful opportunities to explore their community and engage with new people, places, and materials. The outing encouraged well-being and belonging as the children experienced the world together in a safe and supportive environment. Exploring books also supported their curiosity, communication, and early literacy, while bringing books back to the centre helped connect their community experience to their ongoing learning.

Through experiences like this, we are supporting the children in discovering that learning can happen everywhere, not just inside the classroom!

Today, our staff came together for valuable naloxone training with Alicia from Avenue B Harm Reduction. We’re grateful for the opportunity to learn, strengthen our knowledge, and continue building our skills so we can better support the community we serve. 🎳 A Fun-Filled Day at Bowlerama! 🎳

First Steps Summer Camp had a blast at Bowlerama! The kids enjoyed bowling, cheering each other on, and making lots of fun summer memories. 💙

And the fun didn’t stop there, they even played a game of “7-Up” while waiting for the bus! 😄🙌

What a great day filled with fun and laughter! ☀️🎳

Fun in the Daycare 🌹

Today, we were gifted some beautiful roses. the infants were invited to explore loose rose petals and whole rose heads. They used their hands to touch, pick up, squeeze, and investigate the delicate petals. Some infants showed curiosity by smelling the roses and encouraging the educators to smell them also, while others carefully examined the different textures and shapes.

This open-ended experience allowed the infants to explore nature at their own pace, using their senses and making their own discoveries. Through touching and manipulating the flowers, they were developing fine-motor skills, coordination, and an awareness of the natural world.

NBCF Connection: This experience supports infants as curious, capable learners by encouraging exploration, sensory discovery, communication, physical development, and meaningful connections with nature. 🌿🌹
