Rixen Creek Micro Farm Sanctuary

Rixen Creek Micro Farm Sanctuary A micro farm sanctuary near Nelson, BC. Most of our animals are rescued from slaughter. Rixen Creek Micro Farm Sanctuary! Come visit us, children welcome!

(Please make a visiting appointment)
Started in 2019 the farm specifically collects animals that were destined for meat and slaughter. With some exceptions (we couldn’t fit full size hogs so the potbelly pigs are representatives of the swine family, they are from a farm that no longer wanted them)
At the moment we have 2 goats, 2 sheep, 2 potbellies, and 2 rabbits. Our hope is that folks who meet

and fall in love with them will be inspired to purchase plant-based meat and dairy alternatives rather than support animal cruelty and killing as our traditional food system does. But, your visit doesn’t need to include discussion on this topic unless it interests you...
Our sheep and goats are leash trained and enjoy regular outings to the beach, dog park, skate park, walks up and down the road, birthday parties... its always nice to have a helper when they go on adventures so let us know if you’d like to come along :)
Visits are free, we are privately funded, but if you’d like to donate a few dollars to the animal food piggy bank donations are gratefully accepted. There is no obligation or pressure to donate however. Hope to see you soon!

We did 15 family visits for our Easter fundraiser this year! An exhausting weekend! The bunnies were very well behaved, can't say the same for the goats.

This is Aziza, she sleeps inside because she has a bad leg and can't perch with the other birds. We say goodnight every night. Turkeys, all birds really, can be very affectionate. They aren't stupid or mindless. She feels and thinks, she can shriek with delight or anguish. It breaks me that these birds are abused and exploited, raised in filthy overcrowded barns with no natural light, by the tens of thousands, to be sent to the slaughterhouse and experience live shackle slaughter at only 4 months old, for food...and nobody gives them a 2nd thought or even considers that maybe we could just eat something else instead? Animal proteins contain cholesterol and zero fibre. Plant proteins = high fibre and cholesterol free.

Wildlife rescue season is starting up. I'm a first responder for Little Mittens Wildlife Rescue. This eagle was stuck on someone's deck this week. I brought it home and it took 3 of us to restrain it for the injury check. It also managed to grab my leg with its talons :( It was flown the next day to a raptor rehab facility in Delta and they determined it has lead poisoning. It is currently receiving care there.

A nervous night last night as Rixen creek breached the bank by the bunny enclosure at 2am. Looks like we're ok but I hope it doesn't get any higher!

Dov and Maverick visited all 6 classes at Rosemont Elementary School this week. All the kids learned a few things about sheep and the difference between a traditional farm and a farm sanctuary. Dov and Mav behaved perfectly and really enjoyed the peanut treats the students had for them.
