A micro farm sanctuary near Nelson, BC. Most of our animals are rescued from slaughter. Rixen Creek Micro Farm Sanctuary! Come visit us, children welcome!

I am also a first responder for injured wildlife with Little Mittens Wildlife Rescue. (Please make a visiting appointment)
Started in 2019 the farm specifically collects animals that were destined for meat and slaughter. With some exceptions (we couldn’t fit full size hogs so the potbelly pigs are representatives of the swine family, they are from a farm that no longer wanted them)
At the moment we have 2 goats, 2 sheep, 2 potbellies, and 2 rabbits. Our hope is that folks who meet and fall in love with them will be inspired to purchase plant-based meat and dairy alternatives rather than support animal cruelty and killing as our traditional food system does. But, your visit doesn’t need to include discussion on this topic unless it interests you...
Our sheep and goats are leash trained and enjoy regular outings to the beach, dog park, skate park, walks up and down the road, birthday parties... its always nice to have a helper when they go on adventures so let us know if you’d like to come along :)
Visits are free, we are privately funded, but if you’d like to donate a few dollars to the animal food piggy bank donations are gratefully accepted. There is no obligation or pressure to donate however. Hope to see you soon!

Introducing 4 of our new Rabbitats bunnies and their new names! (Blodgett and Omea are twin sisters) And an update on Silas sheep....his face is back to normal today :)

Silas woke up with bottle jaw this morning :( I cancelled work and took him to Grand Forks for treatment. Strangely he turned out not to be anemic and his p**p test came back negative for parasites but they think it was a false negative. He's getting parasite treatment now and feeling just fine despite a very swollen jaw. We sat with all the dogs and cats in the vets waiting area. One person thought he was a Llama lol.

We recently had a donation of 2 rubbermaids of enormous carrots. Some are 4 inches across. The rabbits are pretty stoked about it.

This is an unexpected surprise....a family nearby found themselves needing to rehome 6 goats immediately due to hard times. They were even willing to give them away for meat. I couldn't take all of them but here's this little guy. He stinks (so he has an appointment to be neutered asap) but he's friendly :) We named him Dagr. He's currently in quarantine before he'll be introduced to the flock.

OMG OMG OMG they arrived at 1:30am today! A 9.5 hour journey for them. 8 rabbits from Rabbitats rescue!!! Thanks to Candy and Karma for driving them to Rock Creek where I collected them, Alison for coordinating, and Deanna for health checks. They got to explore their new home this morning. Now we get to choose names for them all :)
