YWCA Lethbridge & District A YWCA built and sustained by the community. A YWCA that evolves with the needs and desires of the community.

A committee of representatives from local organizations identified a need for a residence for single young women who were students and working in the area. In 1949, they appointed a permanent Board of Directors, and in 1951 the registered the Young Women's Christian Association of Lethbridge as a society. More than seventy years have passed since those humble beginnings, and YWCA Lethbridge continues to grow and respond to the needs of the Southern Alberta community. Domestic & Sexual Violence; Trauma & Crisis Prevention/Intervention; Poverty, Housing & Homelessness; Leadership & Empowerment and Advocacy & Awareness are all addressed at YWCA Lethbridge. A YWCA that is privileged to serve Southern Alberta. A YWCA that serves more than 6,000 individuals each year. As a member of YWCA Canada, we share in the history and responsibility of being Canada's oldest and largest women's multi-service organization. Through YWCA Canada, we are connected not only across nine provinces and two territories, but worldwide, uniting 25,000,000 women and girls throughout YWCAs in 125 countries. Tomorrow, we Take Back the Night!

As part of Week Without Violence, YWCA Lethbridge & District invites you to join us on Friday, October 23, at 6:00 pm on the steps of City Hall as we stand together for women’s right to walk safely at night.

Dress for the weather, bundle up, and wear comfortable walking shoes! We’ll walk together through downtown Lethbridge before heading to the YWCA for hot drinks, light refreshments, and community connection.

We can’t wait to see you there! Bring your friends, family, and neighbours, and join us in taking a stand against violence and supporting safer communities where everyone deserves to feel safe.

We will gather at 6:00 pm on the steps of City Hall before walking together through downtown Lethbridge and ending at the YWCA building for hot drinks, light refreshments, and community connection.

Take Back the Night is an opportunity to stand together, raise awareness, and call for a future free from harassment, violence, and fear.

Bring your friends and family and come together to show our support for safer communities where everyone deserves to feel safe.

Survivors deserve safety. Physical, emotional, spiritual, and financial safety. Everyone has the right to live, work, and participate in communities and institutions free from violence.

Survivors deserve support. Healing from trauma can be a lifelong journey. Survivors deserve compassionate, ongoing support as they navigate each step toward safety, stability, and independence.

Survivors deserve solidarity. No one should have to face abuse alone. We must continue to listen, support, and show up for survivors, every step of the way.

On Sunday, October 4, we were honoured to participate in the Sisters in Spirit Vigil, coming together with community members to honour the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and gender-diverse people.

We are grateful to stand alongside those who continue to call for awareness, justice, and meaningful change.

On October 23, 2026, YWCA Lethbridge & District will be hosting Take Back the Night, an annual event that brings the community together to stand up for women’s right to walk safely at night.

The evening begins at 6:00 pm on the steps of City Hall, where community members gather before walking together through downtown Lethbridge. The walk concludes at the YWCA building, where participants can warm up with hot drinks and light refreshments while connecting with others in the community.

Take Back the Night is a visible reminder that women should be able to walk through their communities at any time of day or night without fear of harassment, violence, or intimidation.

We invite you to join us, bring your friends, family, colleagues, and neighbours, and walk with us. Together, we can raise our voices, show our support, and take a stand for safer, more inclusive communities where everyone has the right to feel safe.
