Today, we’re excited to introduce Aiden Boon, who will be playing Sarah in FLIGHT RISK by Meg Braem!

We asked Aiden two questions about the production and her New West Theatre journey:

✨ Where does Flight Risk fit into your New West Theatre journey?

“Flight Risk will be my second time getting the opportunity to work and perform with New West Theatre. In 2024, I had the wonderful opportunity of joining the cast of Elf: The Musical, where I got to spend the holiday season spreading Christmas cheer. Although Flight Risk is a tonal departure from dancing and singing around the North Pole, I am extremely grateful to tell such a powerful story about life, death, and community.”

🎭 How would you describe Flight Risk in three words?

Universal. Poignant. Healing.

We’re counting down the days until our special presentation of INNER ELDER, written and performed by award-winning Cree actress Michelle Thrush. ❤️

Through heartfelt storytelling, Michelle takes the audience on a deeply personal journey of discovery, drawing from real moments of her childhood that shaped her life. It has been described as a love letter to community.

A humorous memoir that weaves together memory, spirit, and land, allowing the audience to witness the magical power of transformation through the powerful magic of… our grandmothers.

Today, we’re excited to introduce Terry Gunvordahl, who will be bringing Hank to life in FLIGHT RISK!

We asked our cast two questions about their New West Theatre journey and the show. Here’s what Terry had to say:

✨ Where does Flight Risk fit into your New West Theatre journey?

“This journey is definitely a side road. I’ve been on New West’s design highway for years, with shows such as Dear Johnny Deere and A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline. The Flight Risk journey started with a YouTube COVID online reading, with me finding Hank — and I was definitely a ‘flight risk’! But it’s harder to escape YouTube.

Then, when I was asked to do it live on stage, my response was that I wasn’t sure about playing someone older than myself. I’ve coerced everyone I know into running lines with me, including my 9-year-old grandson… my 6-month-old grandson declined.”

🎭 How would you describe Flight Risk in three words?

Risky. Funny. History.

We can’t wait to see Terry step out of the designer’s chair and into the role of Hank! ❤️

✈️MEET THE PLAYWRIGHT: MEG BRAEM

We’re thrilled to be bringing FLIGHT RISK to the stage this season — a beautiful and touching play by acclaimed Alberta playwright Meg Braem.

Meg Braem's plays have been nominated for a Governor General's Literary Award, won the Alberta Literary Award for Drama and Alberta Playwrights' Competition. Her work has been published by Playwrights Canada Press, University of Toronto Press and University of Calgary Press. Meg's Plays have been presented at Drayton Entertainment, Theatre Calgary, The Belfry Theatre, Sage Theatre, The Maggie Tree, Workshop West Playwrights' Theatre, Atomic Vaudeville and Intrepid Theatre. Meg is a past writer-in-residence at the University of Alberta, University of Calgary, Calgary Public Library and member of the Citadel Theatre Playwrights' Forum. Meg's plays The Resurrectionists and Wyrd (co-creator) were produced by Larriken Entertainment and toured the Yukon.

Currently, Meg is developing a new show as part of Lethbridge's The Kapusta Kollective. Meg Braem is an assistant professor at Mount Royal University.

Meet Michelle Thrush — the incredible artist behind Inner Elder, coming to the Sterndale Bennett Theatre in just one month!

We are so excited to welcome Michelle to Lethbridge and to share this beautiful, heartfelt performance with our community. An acclaimed Canadian actress, writer, and Indigenous storyteller, Michelle is perhaps best known for her award-winning role as Gail Stoney in Blackstone. Through Inner Elder, she invites audiences into a deeply personal journey filled with humour, heart, memory, and the wisdom of the generations that came before us.
