Need to find out what community members truly think?

An external facilitator is a great way to gather community feedback without the bias of internal processes.

RDN has helped several rural communities gather community feedback on issues, such as housing and community safety, to align actions with the true community needs.

Uncertainty is shaping the newcomer experience in Alberta right now.

In February 2026, RDN launched the first session of its WARM Training Series. Participants were asked to share one word that reflects what newcomers in their community are navigating today. The resulting word cloud revealed "uncertainty" as the most common response, followed by anxiety and housing.

Newcomers arrive with diverse experiences and aspirations, yet many face complex and evolving challenges. Learn more about the WARM project and join our upcoming community engagement sessions this June to be part of the conversation.

📢RDN Releases 2025 Alberta Provincial Estimation Reports!

New data highlights continued trend: women, 2SLGBTQIA+, and Indigenous people disproportionately at risk of housing insecurity in rural Alberta

Following the 2018, 2020, and 2023 provincial estimations conducted by communities across Alberta, RDN again partnered with communities across the province in 2025 to capture a comprehensive picture of rural, remote, and Indigenous housing insecurity. Data collection in October 2025 identified 1,762 survey respondents as housing insecure according to the national definitions of homelessness.

The top three reasons for housing insecurity across participating rural, remote, and Indigenous communities in Alberta were:

✔️High housing costs
✔️Health challenges
✔️Low vacancy rates

We’re excited to share that the Readiness Guide, “Preparing for Housing Development on First Nation Reserves,” is officially complete and now available on our website!

This project was made possible through a meaningful partnership with SevGen Consulting, who led the research and writing that shaped the guide into what it is today. Their expertise, insights, and dedication were instrumental throughout the process. This Guide was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).
