FEB 11TH International Day of Women and Girls in Science Spotlight: Dr. Mae Jemison — the first Black woman to travel to space! 🌎✨

In 1992, Dr. Jemison made history aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour, proving that no dream is too big when you combine passion, education, and determination.

But her journey didn’t start with NASA. 👩🏾‍⚕️
She is also a medical doctor, engineer, professor, and advocate for science education.
From a young age, Mae loved science and dance — showing us that you can embrace all parts of who you are.

Promotes diversity in science
Encourages young girls — especially Black girls — to pursue their dreams

In 1910, the spiritual heart of the Black pioneer community was established: Shiloh Baptist Church in Edmonton. Built by the very settlers who journeyed from Oklahoma, it served as more than just a church—it was a community hub, a sanctuary, and a symbol of "Black Brilliance" taking root in a new land.

​Today, we honour the elders who kept these doors open and the stories alive.
