ACUA Alberta Council for the Ukrainian Arts ACUA is a non profit Ukrainian community arts organization. Our Mission
To foster the growth and awareness of all forms of Ukrainian arts in Alberta.

Our Objectives
To educate the public with respect to the Ukrainian arts. To support and promote Ukrainian artists and their work through a variety of activities that engage the broader Alberta public. Our Goals
One of ACUA's major effort is to renew and to increase membership by developing and implementing a new membership campaign. The focus is intended to increase awareness of the organization, to excite and engage new members to join and participate in supporting the activities and programs of the organization. ACUA accomplishes its mission in these ways:
• Educating the public in Ukrainian art forms through workshops and lectures.
• Engaging and involving the community with respect Ukrainian arts and cultural traditions.
• Publishing ACUA Vitae arts and culture magazine.
• Creating awareness by publishing, sharing, and disseminating information about Ukrainian art and culture.
• Maintaining an online directory of Ukrainian Canadian artists.
• Providing community outreach.
• Providing artists and community organizations with opportunities including a venue to display, promotions, and professional development opportunities to help introduce them to the greater community.
• Granting scholarships and awards that support Ukrainian Canadian artists and art projects that promote Ukrainian art and culture.

Join us for the first book launch of Russell Sawchuk, Jars Balan, and Sterling (Slavo) Demchinsky‘s beautiful new coffee table book.

Thursday November 5 starting at 6:30 p.m. only at Alberta Council for the Ukrainian Arts. All three authors will be in attendance and will present insight into the book’s creation. Books will be available for purchase and for signatures.

Refreshments will be available. This event is free to attend.

Memories of Alberta Ukrainian Orthodox Churches includes photographs and histories of 66 Ukrainian Orthodox churches established in the twentieth century by Ukrainian pioneers in northeastern Alberta.

The book includes:

• 310 pages with 500+ photographs

• Outside and inside church views

• History of each parish

• Location of church and cemetery

• Clergy that served and founders

It also lists all known Ukrainian Orthodox parishes and cemeteries that existed in Alberta between 1900 and 2000.

The book is available for purchase anytime in our ACUA Boutique or our online store.

NO ORDINARY WORLD is a documentary film made by the Alberta based film company Twisted Timber Productions led by Patrick Lundeen and award-winning activist filmmaker Anna Kuelken.

Alberta Council for the Ukrainian Arts is proud to be a partner on the project and is accepting donations to reserve tickets for the film screening at Garneau Theatre in Edmonton on October 21.

Every donated dollar above standard ticket pricing will be contributed to support the work of ACUA and Fire Fighter Aid Ukraine, an Edmonton based non-profit organization providing substantial aid to Ukraine since 2014.

During the month of October 2024, Anna Kuelken and Patrick Lundeen participated in a volunteer mission, collecting and delivering humanitarian aid along the frontlines in Ukraine. The story highlights several non-profit and humanitarian groups, with a focus on the mission orchestrated by the NOW Foundation, a Warsaw-based, grassroots group of volunteers. These international volunteers have been working tirelessly to help Ukrainians since 2022. The artistic team hopes the film will inspire viewers to support Ukraine - either through monetary contributions or by lending their own arms and legs.

🎨 The workshop will cover the basics of color selection, pattern transfer, and heat-setting techniques to ensure your design lasts through many washes.
