Volunteer backyard fruit rescue is now coordinated by Leftovers Foundation, through their Home Harvest project! OFRE maintains a small orchard in the heart of Edmonton, on the former school field at the Multicultural Health Broker buil

ding (95 st and 107A Ave). We also offer education opportunities around fruit growing and use. OFRE raises awareness about food security, and builds community by bringing people together around an amazing resource: local fruit!

Your yard is not one climate. It is a collection of warm corners, frost pockets, wind tunnels, and sheltered spots that behave differently from each other, sometimes by several degrees.

Most gardeners never map those differences, so they plant everywhere the same way and wonder why results are inconsistent.

This article breaks down how to find and use those zones to protect your plants, extend your growing season, and make better decisions about what goes where in your yard.

Join us April 15 for a live workshop where Winston Gamache teaches you how to apply this in your own Edmonton yard.

It's online, so you can attend from anywhere in Canada.

Discover how urban microclimates can boost plant growth and enhance your garden's success with simple climate control strategies.

Today, we pause to remember.

We honour the courage, sacrifice, and service of those who gave everything for the peace we live in today.

At Operation Fruit Rescue Edmonton, we’re mindful that true wellness includes gratitude—taking a quiet moment to reflect, breathe, and remember.

May we never take our freedoms, our peace, or our community for granted and we acknowledge the sacrifices of those that come before us allowing us to continue living in this wonderful country.

Lest we forget. ❤️

Got Pulp? Make Cake!
If you find yourself with a bunch of carrot pulp, using them in cake is a great idea.

Cindy of Backyard City Homestead who leads a lot of our traditional skills workshops (Jam, canning tomatoes, making sauerkraut, etc) has a recipe for Carrot Ginger Cake that sounds awesome.

So if you've got pulp, check it out.
