THRIVE Workshop: Meaning & Mental Health Recovery: Why it Matters
Mental health is more than the absence of illness—it also includes feeling a sense of meaning, connection, and agency in your life.

In this workshop, we’ll explore how purpose, relationships, and personal choice contribute to mental well-being and recovery. We’ll also look at why it can be difficult to find or maintain meaning during challenging times, and why it plays an important role in long-term wellness.

Participants will be invited to reflect on what gives their life meaning and what helps support their mental health and sense of direction.

THRIVE Workshop: Toxic Positivity: Beyond “Good Vibes Only”

Have you ever been told “look on the bright side” or “just stay positive” when you were feeling sad, angry, or overwhelmed? Have you ever felt like difficult emotions are something you should avoid, minimize, or hide?

Sometimes, positivity can become unhelpful when it pressures us to ignore how we really feel and put on a “fine” face when we’re not. This is often referred to as toxic positivity.

In this interactive workshop, we will explore what toxic positivity is, where it comes from, and how it can affect our mental health and relationships. We’ll also look at how to move beyond “good vibes only” toward making space for the full range of human emotions.

THRIVE Workshop: Understanding ADHD in Women

ADHD often looks different in women than many people expect. As a result, many women go undiagnosed until adulthood, spending years wondering why everyday tasks seem harder than they should.

This workshop explores how ADHD can affect attention, organization, emotions, and daily life, as well as the unique ways it may present in women.

Participants will gain a better understanding of common ADHD experiences, why many women are missed or diagnosed later in life, and how this understanding can help reduce self-blame and build self-compassion.

On May 28, Coordinated Access leads from across Nova Scotia came together for a co-working day hosted by CMHA-NS Division's, Coordinated Access Manager, Shauna Brousseau.

Coordinated Access is a system used across Canada that helps streamline how people are matched to housing supports. In Nova Scotia, it supports a more consistent and coordinated approach across communities.

Days like this are a critical part of strengthening how the system works locally, supporting collaboration, shared learning, and continuous improvement.

Access to mental health care shouldn’t depend on your postal code.

While many rural and remote communities report strong community belonging and well-being, too many people still face long travel distances, fewer services, and barriers to getting mental health support when they need it most.

A new national report from Canadian Mental Health Association brings together evidence from across Canada on rural and remote mental health, showing that these barriers are not isolated—but widespread and persistent.

Read Closing the Distance: Rural and Remote Mental Health in Canada to better understand the evidence behind what communities are already experiencing.

💜 Thank You for Supporting Mental Health in Nova Scotia 💜

A heartfelt thank you to Shane Kennedy, The Cooperators and Jason and the team at Pür & Simple Restaurants of Atlantic Canada in Bedford for hosting today's B2B event and for their generous support of mental health in our communities.

Together, they raised and donated $590 in support of mental health programs across Nova Scotia, with funds benefiting both the Canadian Mental Health Association, Nova Scotia Division and the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia.

We are grateful to Shane, Jason, and everyone who participated today for choosing to invest in mental health and for helping ensure that more Nova Scotians have access to the support, knowledge, and resources they need.
