Inclusion and Beyond: How a Clear Digital Strategy Benefits Everyone

As more of life moves online, digital inclusion shapes how people work, learn, access services, and stay connected—and it creates real economic opportunity for Nova Scotia.

We’re bringing together expert voices from the UK and right here at home:

🔹 Ed Leighton FRSA, Director of Strategy at The Connection Project (UK), will share insights from their new report Misconnected and what it takes to build digital systems that work for everyone.

🔹 Christine Liang, Head of Digital Inclusion Programme with the UK Government’s Department for Science, Innovation and Technology will speak to the UK’s national Digital Inclusion Action Plan and how policy can drive meaningful change.

🔹 The Hon. Jill Balser, Minister of Nova Scotia Department of Cyber Security and Digital Solutions, will bring the provincial perspective on how Nova Scotia is approaching digital inclusion and digital service delivery.

🔹 Matt Spurway, Founder & Chief Development Officer of GEO Nova Scotia, will share frontline insight on the real impact of digital exclusion and the community partnerships needed to create lasting solutions.

What could your organization do with an extra $3,400 a year?

That kind of savings can go a long way—whether it’s expanding a program, supporting your team, or reaching more people in your community.

With GEO for Nonprofits, you can reduce your mobile costs through flexible plans, no contracts, and pricing built specifically for organizations like yours. It’s a simple shift that helps you keep more of your budget where it belongs—in your work.

And it goes even further.
Every dollar you spend also supports digital inclusion programming across Nova Scotia, helping more people get connected.

We’re really looking forward to Engage Nova Scotia’s Quality of Life Survey, coming later this month!

GEO Nova Scotia was grateful to provide input on questions related to digital inclusion, helping ensure the realities of being online (and offline) in Nova Scotia are reflected in this important work.

Last October at GEO Forum 2025, our own Laurel Taylor sat down with Erin Wynn, Director of the Quality of Life Initiative at Engage Nova Scotia, to talk about how digital inequity impacts quality of life — and what this upcoming survey hopes to uncover.

Want to learn more about why digital inclusion matters when we talk about wellbeing in our communities?

Our Phones for the Holidays campaign wraps up on January 31 and we’ve been blown away by the generosity of Nova Scotian's donating their old cell phones all across the province!

Now, in this last week, we’re focusing on the final (and crucial) piece: funding pre-paid phone cards so every donated phone can be used right away.

A one-month phone card with data costs about $30, and every dollar helps ensure someone experiencing homelessness or gender-based violence can connect to critical supports when they need them most.
