CVRD News: Comox Valley to Host Free Community Kick-Off Watch Party at Exhibition Grounds ⚽

The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is pleased to announce the Comox Valley Kick Off – a free, family-friendly celebration and community soccer watch party, taking place on Friday, June 12, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the CVRD Exhibition Grounds (Rotary Bowl).

Supported through a Province of British Columbia grant program, the event will bring the community together to celebrate the FIFA World Cup 2026™ through live match viewing, local entertainment, food vendors, and inclusive community activities.

The event will feature live broadcasts of both Team Canada’s and Team USA’s opening FIFA World Cup 2026™ matches on a large outdoor screen, creating a vibrant festival-style atmosphere for residents and visitors of all ages.

Programming throughout the day will include:
• Opening ceremony and community welcome
• Live FIFA World Cup match viewing
12:00 noon Team Canada v Bosnia and Herzegovina
6:00 pm USA v Paraguay
• Accessible public viewing areas and amenities
• Family-friendly recreation and community activities throughout the entire day – skills competitions, bouncy castles and more!
• Local live music and entertainment between matches
• Food trucks and vendors

The event is designed to create a welcoming and inclusive space that celebrates community connection, diversity, and shared experiences through sport.

Planning for the event is currently underway in collaboration with community partners, the municipalities, and public safety agencies. A comprehensive safety and accessibility plan will support event operations to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for attendees.

Hey Comox Valley folks 📢📢

Special Olympics - Comox is hosting a free Active Start and FUNdamentals Try-It Day! This event is open to children aged 2-11 with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families to join us in Comox for a fun afternoon full of activities!

We are also looking for potential volunteers! SOBC volunteers have the incredible opportunity to help change lives through the joy of sport! If you or someone you know might be interested, please reach out to Laura MacKillop or Randy James (Comox Valley-Local Coordinator) for more information.

Location: Comox Community Centre
Date & Time: Saturday May 2, 12:30-3:30.

Active Start and FUNdamentals are for children with intellectual disabilities. Both programs not only set the foundation for sport participation and life-long physical activity but also provide a safe and fun environment for socialization and community-all vital aspects of an enriched life.

Active Start is for children between the ages of 2 and 6. In this program children learn basic motor skills such as walking, running, jumping, and throwing.
FUNdamentals is for children between the ages of 7 and 11. In this program children transition from the basic movement skills learned in Active Start, to basic sport-specific skills. This program introduces skills relating to soccer ⚽ basketball 🏀softball 🥎 track & field 🏃‍♀️ and 5-pin bowling 🎳 There is also a nutrition education portion to this program.
