🌱 Our Garden Continues to Grow! 🌱

We're excited to see the continued expansion of the Eureka Support Society garden and all the opportunities it creates for our Clubhouse community.

The garden is more than just a place to grow vegetables—it's a space where members can build skills, work together, enjoy the outdoors, and experience the pride that comes from nurturing something from seed to harvest. The fresh produce we grow is also used in our free daily lunch program, helping us serve healthy, delicious meals made with ingredients grown right here in our own garden.

A heartfelt thank you to Toni, whose knowledge, dedication, and countless hours of hard work have been instrumental in helping the garden thrive. Her passion and willingness to share her expertise have inspired so many along the way.

We also want to recognize and thank all of our members and volunteers who have rolled up their sleeves and contributed to the garden. Whether you've planted, watered, weeded, harvested, or simply offered encouragement, your efforts have helped create something truly special. This garden is a reflection of what can be accomplished when a community works together.

We're looking forward to another season of growth, learning, and sharing the harvest. šŸ’ššŸŒæ

Race #3 of the Mindfulness Miles fundraiser is complete.

This run was dedicated to adults living with schizophrenia, and it turned out to be one of the more challenging races I've had in a while.

Going into the race, some unforeseen circumstances kept me awake when I should have been sleeping. As a result, I started the 24 km trail run running on very little sleep and quickly learned what that feels like over a long distance. The first half of the course was a struggle. My body never seemed to find the rhythm and flow that usually comes when I'm rested and feeling strong. I focused on getting from one aid station to the next, fueling as often as possible and doing my best to keep moving forward.

It wasn't until the second half of the course that things began to change. A creek along the trail gave me the chance to cool down and soak myself in some cold water. It was like a switch flipped. My mind cleared, my energy improved, and I was able to pick up the pace and finish the race stronger than I started.

I didn't achieve the time I know I'm capable of, but I finished. Sometimes success isn't about a personal best. Sometimes it's about adapting, pushing through difficult circumstances, and refusing to quit.

As I reflected on the race, I couldn't help but think about the people this run was dedicated to. Adults living with schizophrenia often face challenges that others don't see—stigma, isolation, fear, and barriers that can make everyday life feel like an uphill climb. Yet many continue to move forward with remarkable courage and resilience.

This race wasn't about a finish time. It was about awareness, understanding, and recognizing the strength of people living with schizophrenia. Every kilometer was a reminder that even when conditions aren't ideal, progress is still possible.

To everyone living with schizophrenia: this run was for you.

Thank you to everyone supporting Eureka Support Society and the Mindfulness Miles fundraiser. Your encouragement helps us continue building a community where people are seen, supported, and valued.

On June 6th, Jason will be taking on 22 kilometers in Port Alberni as part of Eureka Support Society’s Mindfulness Miles fundraiser.

This race is dedicated to adults living with schizophrenia.

Schizophrenia is often misunderstood, but behind the diagnosis are people with dreams, talents, humor, courage, and value. Many face daily challenges most of us never see — stigma, isolation, fear, and barriers to connection and support. Yet every day, they continue moving forward with strength that deserves recognition and compassion.

A 22 km trail race is demanding. There are steep climbs, moments of exhaustion, and stretches where the finish line feels far away. In many ways, that reflects the journey many adults living with schizophrenia experience — pushing through difficult terrain while continuing to hope, persevere, and find stability.

This run is about more than distance or time. It’s about awareness, understanding, and reminding people that nobody should have to face mental illness alone. Every step is taken in support of dignity, inclusion, and a community where people living with schizophrenia are seen, heard, and supported.

To those living with schizophrenia: this race is for you.

Race #2 of Mindfulness Miles at Cowichan Lake is complete—and what an incredible accomplishment it was.

The 25K course through beautiful forest and lakeside views offered the perfect conditions—cool temperatures, soft light through the trees, and a peaceful, steady rhythm that carried every step forward.

This race was dedicated to moms affected by mental health challenges. Each kilometre served as a reminder of the strength, endurance, and quiet resilience carried by so many mothers every day.

From all of us at Eureka Support Society, we want to celebrate this milestone and thank everyone who continues to support the Mindfulness Miles journey. These runs are more than just distance—they’re about awareness, connection, and community.

A special acknowledgement to everyone involved in Mindfulness Miles for making this event meaningful and impactful.

On to the next step in the journey—together.

This 26 km journey with 638 meters of climbing is more than just Race #2 of the Island Trail Series—it’s for moms.

On May 9th, I’m running for mothers affected by mental illness.

For the moms who wake up tired but still show up.
For the ones carrying more than anyone can see.
For the ones doing their best on the hardest days.

Because just like this course, motherhood isn’t always flat or predictable.
There are long, relentless climbs. Moments where everything feels uphill.
And stretches where just putting one foot in front of the other is a victory.

At 8.75 km, there’s a cutoff time. A point you have to reach to keep going.
And so many moms live with that same pressure—feeling like they have to keep up, hold it together, and meet expectations… no matter how heavy things feel.

There are three aid stations on this course.
Places to pause, refuel, and breathe.
Every mom deserves that. A moment. A break. Support without judgment.
But too often, those supports aren’t there.
That’s why this run matters.

Every step supports Eureka Support Society’s Mindfulness Miles—creating space where moms can connect, move, and not feel alone.

So today, I run for you:
For your strength.
For your resilience.
For the days you didn’t think you could keep going—but did.

You are not alone.
And this race is for you.

šŸŒ Happy Earth Day from Eureka Support Society! 🌱

Today is a reminder that small actions can make a big difference—for our planet and for our well-being. Whether it’s getting outside for a walk, picking up litter, planting something new, or simply taking a moment to appreciate nature, every step counts.

Spending time outdoors can help clear the mind, reduce stress, and bring a sense of calm and connection. At Eureka, we believe in the power of community and the healing benefits of nature—something we experience together each week on our walks.

Let’s continue to care for the spaces around us and support one another along the way. šŸ’š

🌟 First Race Complete – Mindfulness Miles in Motion! 🌟

What an incredible start to our journey! The first race representing Mindfulness Miles is officially in the books, and we’re feeling proud, grateful, and energized for what’s ahead.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who has supported this initiative so far — because of you, we’ve already raised $1,200+ toward our $10,000 goal! Every step, every dollar, and every bit of encouragement is making a real impact.

The course at Royal Roads in Victoria was fast and flowy — the perfect setting to kick things off. Jason set a goal and delivered, breaking the 1-hour mark with a time of 59:37! šŸ’„

šŸ“Š Race Results:
• 21 / 45 in age group
• 58 / 148 in gender
• 71 / 285 overall

This is just the beginning. We’ll keep showing up, putting in the miles, and building momentum together.

Let’s keep it going — step by step. šŸ’™

This Saturday April 11th running 11 kilometers in Victoria for purpose.

I dedicate this race to every individual navigating the challenges of mental health—those who show up each day, even when it’s hard. To the quiet strength it takes to keep going, to reach out, to take one more step forward.

This run is for our community at Eureka Support Society, where connection, understanding, and hope are built one moment—and one mile—at a time.

Each step I take is a reminder that progress doesn’t have to be fast to be meaningful. Just like in mental health, what matters most is that we keep moving.

Today, we move together.
For resilience.
For healing.
For each other.

Much Love
