This summer, we joined the K’ómoks First Nation youth again for a summer camp full of hands-on cooking, learning and lots of good food!

The week was rooted in local and traditional foods, with lots of opportunities for the kids to get their hands busy in the kitchen and learn about the food around them.

Together, we made:
🍓 Fruit leather using plums, blackcurrants, strawberries and applesauce from LUSH Valley’s Fruit Tree program
🍕 Pita bread pizzas using ingredients from the K’ómoks community garden
🫓 Elk quesadillas, using elk harvested in the K’ómoks Youth Elk Hunt
🍎 Cinnamon apple chips, peanut butter balls, salsa, and more!

We’re so grateful for the opportunity to share these experiences with K’ómoks First Nation youth. 💚

This summer, 1,000 Eat Local bingo cards made their way into the hands of people across the Comox Valley, encouraging us to get out, explore, and celebrate the incredible local food that grows and is made right here at home.

Thanks to everyone who showed up for local food this summer. Every time you choose to buy from a local farmer or fill your basket at the farmers’ market, you’re helping build a stronger, more resilient local food system.

🏆 Prize winners have now been contacted! Congratulations to our winners, and a big thank you to the generous local farmers who donated prizes and helped make Eat Local Comox Valley possible!

Keep eating local, Comox Valley! 🍎🥕🫐
