Thank you to our eelgrass washer tyers who took home washers and twist ties and got them all ready for our upcoming eelgrass transplant - with your help, we now have over 7,000 washers ready to be attached to eelgrass shoots!

The next step of this project, the actual transplanting, will take place near Oyster River between June 17th and 22nd. Volunteers will hang out on shore at the Pacific Playgrounds Oceanside Resort, attaching the prepared washers to eelgrass shoots harvested by the dive team. The dive team will then take the prepared eelgrass shoots to be transplanted. The washers serve as temporary anchors, helping the shoots establish in the seabed before naturally rusting away.

If you are interested in helping with this phase of the project, you can sign up via our volunteer calendar - just navigate to the month of June and check out the shifts available between the 17th and 22nd: https://events.civicchamps.com/organizations/3172/calendar/month

Thank you to everyone who has supported the restoration of Kus-kus-sum over the last 5 years! As you probably know, we completed the removal of the steel piling wall in February, marking the last major point in the restoration of the site. We are now moving into a phase of smaller works, maintenance and monitoring, as we prepare for title transfer of the site.

Some of the work you’ll see happening onsite over the next few months includes upgrades and expansion of the irrigation system, removal of the remaining wood cribbing along the riverfront, ongoing invasive species removal, and installation of eco-cultural fencing to help prevent Canada geese from grazing in the tidal marsh areas.

And a big thanks as well to CV Broombusters for taking care of the broom outside of the fence! πŸ™

Every Thursday morning over the next few months we will be visiting one of our stewardship sites with volunteers. Check out our volunteer calendar if you ever want to join in:

We’re so close to our goal - just 10 more monthly donors to go πŸ’š

Will you help us reach 50 this spring?

Monthly gifts provide steady, reliable funding that helps us develop the next generation of restoration projects in our community, while also allowing us to monitor and research coastal species, track the health of local streams, and connect our community to the waters that shape life in the Comox Valley.

Join a growing community of people helping make this work possible year-round.

Most monthly gifts are between $10 and $25 - and every amount helps.
