You don't have to understand everything to make a difference in a young person's life. You just have to be willing to listen and love them.

Supporting LGBTQ+ children and youth starts with something we all have the power to offer: acceptance.

It means creating a home where questions are met with kindness instead of judgment.

A classroom where differences are respected.

A community where young people know they can turn to a trusted adult and be met with compassion.

You don't need all the right words.
You don't need to know every term.
You simply need to be willing to learn, to listen, and to stand beside young people when they need you.

Sometimes, the most powerful thing an adult can say is, "I'm glad you told me. I love you, and I'm here for you."

Small moments of acceptance can leave a lasting impact.

Let's be the adults our young people know they can count on.

🎃🏳️‍🌈 Halloween is just ONE WEEK AWAY! A little reminder as we get ready for trick-or-treat night: Halloween is for EveryBODY 💜

Trick-or-treaters come in all ages, shapes, sizes, genders, and abilities.

Some may be little, some may be teens, and some may be older. Some may wear costumes that challenge our expectations, and others may not wear a costume at all.

You don’t need to understand someone’s story to show them kindness.

Please resist the urge to question someone’s age, appearance, or gender before handing over a treat. You never know what someone might be navigating, and a simple smile and a piece of candy can go a long way toward making someone feel welcome.

🍬 Give the candy.
😊 Share a smile.
💛 Leave the questions behind.

Let’s make Northumberland a place where everyone can enjoy a little Halloween magic, exactly as they are.

Because kindness has no age limit, and acceptance should never come with conditions.

🌈 HELP US MAKE PRIDE HAPPEN! 🌈

Northumberland Pride Day is returning to Port Hope on Saturday, June 5, 2027, and we’re looking for volunteers to join our organizing committee!

It takes a community to create a celebration where everyone feels welcome, included, and celebrated, and we’d love to have you be part of it!

There are lots of ways to get involved! Whether you can offer a little time or a lot, help with planning, share your skills, lend a hand with event preparations, or support us on the day itself, every contribution makes a difference.

You don’t need previous experience or a huge amount of free time. Just bring your enthusiasm, your ideas, and your belief in building a community where everyone belongs.

✨ Every helping hand counts, and all levels of commitment are welcome!

Every child deserves to feel safe, loved, and accepted for exactly who they are.

For LGBTQ+ children and youth, knowing they have the support of the adults in their lives can make a world of difference.

Support doesn't have to be complicated. It can look like listening without judgment, using someone's chosen name and pronouns, standing up when you hear hurtful comments, or simply reminding a young person that they are loved just as they are.

Our words and actions help shape how young people see themselves and the world around them. When we create spaces where they can be authentic without fear of rejection, we give them room to grow, build confidence, and imagine a future where they belong.

Every child deserves that opportunity. Every young person deserves to know they are never alone.

Let's make Northumberland a community where every young person feels safe to be themselves.

We were thrilled to partner with Northumberland Pride for YMCA Northumberland’s 4th Annual Rainbow Run in Cobourg this past June, as well as to have our amazing Y Arriba Team be part of Northumberland Pride’s Family Day in Port Hope! 🏳️‍🌈✨

"When we come together, we can create something truly remarkable. This is what community looks like!" — reflected Eunice Kirkpatrick, President & CEO.

🏳️‍🌈 Beyond helping plan the Rainbow Run event, serving snow cones, and bringing Pickles the Unicorn to lead our first Bubble Dash, Northumberland Pride helped bring our community closer together.

We recently met with Northumberland Pride members to present them with a portion of the funds raised. Thanks to 150+ participants, volunteers, and sponsors, these funds will support barrier reducing efforts for the YMCA and Northumberland Pride.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us to paint Northumberland in love and acceptance. 💖

We’re already excited to start planning for next year! 🌈🏃‍♀️
