HC4HK is focused on building basic fundamental skills and game intelligence. We teach players how to think the game — not just play it. Contact us today!

Focusing on players from learn to skate to AAA, we teach the skill, not just the drill. MEET SOME OF THE PEOPLE BEHIND HC4HK! Jamie Cavanaugh- HC4HK Coach

I have been an active volunteer for several local sports associations and a former skating and hockey instructor for the Town of Cobourg. I have truly enjoyed every minute. Over the years, I have become aware of a growing trend concerning the degradation of mental health at the child and youth level. A trend I wish to help reverse. I am not a psychologist or a social worker. I have a diploma in child psychology, and I have completed the mental health first aid course offered by the Mental Health Commission of Canada. I am a registered, licensed, and insured coach within the National Coaching Certification Program and the Coaching Association of Canada. I am a certified Development 1 coach within the Ontario Hockey Federation, a certified HCTP Level 1 Trainer, and I also hold many other hockey-specific credentials. My experiences with coaching and life in general lead me to believe HC4HK will be a great gateway to the services offered by many great local professionals in the mental health field and will help end the stigma that mental health issues can carry. Hockey is our vehicle, and our players are our passengers! Just like in hockey, through teamwork, we can go for the win!

As we head into the 2026-2027 season, proper helmet and cage fit will be a major equipment-safety focus.

Parents & players — please take a few seconds to check your helmet before every ice time!
Remember:
• The cage must sit INSIDE the J-clips — not on top or outside them.
• The chin cup should sit snugly against the chin — not dangling below the jaw.
• All straps, snaps and hardware must be properly adjusted, fastened and functional.
• No tape or modified straps to hold equipment in place.

Officials will be enforcing Hockey Canada Rule 3.6 - Protective Equipment.
Players with improperly fitted or non-compliant equipment may be required to leave the ice immediately to correct the issue.
Failure to correct the problem can result in a 2-minute minor penalty for illegal equipment, with additional penalties possible for persistent refusal to comply.

•• Parents - check the cage before they hit the ice!
A proper fit isn't just about avoiding a penalty - it's about protecting our players.
Check it. Adjust it. Secure it. Then hit the ice!

In Ontario, Canada we use the STOP sign on the backs of all OMHA players!

The STOP sign is an important reminder of how our players should to play the game.

STOP stands for “Safety Towards Other Players,” and that message goes beyond simply avoiding checks from behind. It means being aware of the players around us, making safe decisions, respecting our opponents and teammates, and understanding that every player on the ice deserves to go home safely.

Hockey is a fast and physical sport, but playing hard and playing safely must go hand in hand.

Every time our players put on that STOP sign, it represents our commitment to Safety Towards Other Players and to creating a hockey environment where skill, competition, respect and safety come first.
