lay your WORD΅down! happens on the 1st Thursday of every month at 7:30 p.m.(doors open at 7:00 p.m.) is a project of {poetry in Cobourg spaces}

{piCs} is one part of the community outreach effort of the Poet Laureate of the Town of Cobourg, Ted Amsden. "We will brave the microphone. You should, too, because

we thirst to hear you." is a collaboration between
Ted Amsden, Poet Laureate,
and poet-activists. This monthly event is a “poetry open mike” and is one of a number of {poetry in Cobourg spaces} initiatives launched by Ted and community members working together.

{piCs} exists to fulfill specific aspects of the mandate from the Town of Cobourg as outlined in the Terms of Reference for the position of Laureate:

1. to launch a public project; and,

2. to create legacy projects that will continue in the local community after a given Laureate's term ends;

3. to participate in the strong and thriving literary life of our Town; and,

4. to ensure that our community encourages self-expression by youth through spoken word and written poetry.

At 7:30 tomorrow evening, Thursday, December 18, Simon Constam will come from Toronto to Cobourg to be one of our three Feature Poets as part of the 23-year-old, regular monthly Third Thursday Reading Series. The other two are Bruce Whiteman, who will come to our Town from Peterborough, and Bob Ledrew, a member of both a local crew of "short order poetry" generators and a Cobourg Poetry Workshop member. This December 18 event will be the 36th month in a row that we have put on our Series since the hiatus necessitated by the pandemic. Join us. It is going to be great.

A few days from now Simon Constam will present his poetry to the poetry-loving audience here in Cobourg. His delivery is always powerful and his charm engages the poet with the listeners. On a foundation of excellently crafted poetry, he always impresses as one of our Series' Featured Poets.
