DEVELOPMENT:
Career Development for Youth in Northumberland:
* This project focused on the growth within careers related to the expansion of the aging demographic. This aging cohort is expected to grow over the next 30 years. The project identified current careers, as well as projected future careers. This information will assist youth in making career and training choices allowing them to live and work in Northumberland. Career Development for Mature Workers:
* A project that assists mature workers in understanding the use of networking as an effective tool in their local employment search. Networking is not only an effective job search strategy, it is also a skill required to connect with lifelong career opportunities and for social engagement. Intergenerational Development:
* This project identified the skills and knowledge of community seniors. The information can benefit the community through mentoring, succession planning and career development for youth. Financial Literacy Project:
* Was offered in Northumberland and Peterborough and provided over 700 students with professional mentors to assist in understanding the key components of financial literacy. INNOVATION & IMPROVEMENT:
Youth Employment:
* Knowledge Based on the Growth of the Senior Population. This project was developed in co-operation with Western University’s Sam Katz Community Health and Aging Research Unit. This project identified current careers and forecasts future careers based on the growth of goods and services required by seniors over the next 30 years. MyHomeWorks:
* A web site designed to help students, teachers and parents explore the local labour market in Northumberland, Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton. Future trends and disruptors are considered as the users predict which jobs will be growing and which will decline. In addition the users learn job search strategies and also details on local employment opportunities. Employment Competencies:
* Competencies describe the skills required to do a job. These skills may be the “soft skills”, the academic, or the technical skills required. This project developed a competency training model for children, youth and adults. Job Search Strategies & Online Training:
* The CTDC has integrated Learning Management System (LMS) on their website. Currently running two, free, online training programs which are both 6-weeks in length - Culinary Assistant and Personal Care Assistant. Open Minds Northumberland:
* A project in partnership with Northumberland County Economic Development that focused on providing grade 7 & 8 students an opportunity to spend a week fully engaged in the agricultural industry. Open Minds Northumberland was recognized as an innovative program by Ontario Economic Development (recipient of Award of Merit).
