🌈 Happy Pride from Upper Room Food Bank & Soup Kitchen! 🌈
Food has a way of bringing people together. Around every table, there is room for connection, community, and belonging—and we believe that everyone deserves a seat.
This Pride Month, we celebrate the diversity, strength, and resilience of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and reaffirm our commitment to creating a welcoming space where everyone is treated with dignity, respect, and compassion.
We're also excited to be participating in this year's Pride Parade! If you'd like to walk with us and help celebrate a community where everyone belongs, send us a message—we'd love to have you join us. 🏳️‍🌈❤️
Because just like a good meal, a strong community is built when everyone is welcome at the table

"A great leader’s legacy is not what he leaves for people, but what he leaves in people."

For 25 years, our Executive Director, Mike MacDonald, has been the person you can lean on . He has always been the calm in the storm, the steady voice when things get complicated, the one who listens fully and makes you feel like your voice truly matters. His consistency isn’t just a leadership trait. It’s a gift he’s given to this organization, to our staff, to our volunteers, and to every person who has ever walked through our doors. He never stops caring.

In a world that can feel rushed, voiceless and overwhelming, he reminds us what it looks like to lead with compassion. To pause. To listen. To choose kindness even when the work is heavy. He looks to build solutions that preserve the dignity of others over, "well that is the way we have always done it"

Today, we honour his heart, his steadiness, and the countless lives made better because he chose and continues to lead with care.

As we continue on with our Community Care Month, and while we’ve been sharing what community means to our staff, we also want to take a moment to recognize someone who truly embodies it.

Although we didn't get to highlight him during Volunteer Appreciation Month, we couldn’t pass up the chance to shine a light on Allen. Allen often comes in to volunteer alongside his wife Sharon, and after speaking with him and hearing his reflections, we knew we couldn't let the opportunity pass without giving him a well-deserved shoutout. His thoughts on community care perfectly reflected the spirit of this month—a reminder that caring for our community is built on showing up, helping one another, and creating connections that make people feel seen and supported.

Allen is the epitome of community—when he’s not with us, he’s out supporting and showing up for others throughout the community in countless ways. A gentle giant in every sense, he leads with kindness, consistency, and humility. He sets the tone for other volunteers, always ready to lend a helping hand and quietly showing what it means to care for those around him.

We are incredibly grateful for all that he brings to our space. Thank you, Allen, for your steady presence, your generosity, and for being such a powerful example of community in action. ❤️

The Subway® Never Miss Lunch™ program is helping ensure children in communities across Canada have access to nutritious food when school-based meal programs pause for the summer.

From June 15–21, every cookie sold at Subway® will help support Food Banks Canada’s After the Bell program. As the program’s fresh food sponsor, Subway® is helping provide healthy food to kids and families who may need extra support during the summer months.

A simple treat can make a meaningful difference. 🍪💚

As we reflect on the Feed the Body, Feed the Soul campaign, we want to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who helped make it possible.
Throughout the month of May, Islanders came together to support PEI Food Banks by exploring local trails, sharing the campaign, making donations, and encouraging others to get involved. Your participation helped raise awareness about food insecurity while highlighting the important connection between physical wellness, mental wellness, and community care.
A special thank you to Island Trails, trail partners, volunteers, and everyone who worked behind the scenes to bring this campaign to life. Initiatives like this remind us that community care is about showing up for one another in ways both big and small.
To everyone who participated, donated, shared, and supported the campaign—thank you. Your generosity and commitment to your community help ensure that Islanders facing food insecurity receive the support they need.
Together, we showed that when a community comes together around a shared purpose, great things can happen.
